@Mrs Green Grass: @winniebee: Yeah, now that they are both off the chart for weight, I am beginning to re-think what I'm feeding them.

I'm not stressed about it because I'm pretty tiny and was tiny as a child. Also, they are preemies and I know they should catch up by 2.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Same. At 30 months, my LO weighs 26 LBS on a good day :( She's tall, though, and is around 50% percentile for height. Girlfriend just does NOT EAT. It drives me crazy. I swore I wouldn't be the mom chasing their kids around with food, but when your kid only eats a couple bites at dinner, you don't have much choice...

I honestly didn't worry too much until she started preschool last month and she is SO MUCH SMALLER than everyone else. Like, the other kids (2 - 3 year olds) are double her size. :( I worry constantly that she will get knocked over or pushed around.

No, not really.

Lo1 had problems with vomiting for about six months, and when we finally figured out it was a dairy allergy he jumped from the 35th to the 60th percentile. So for a minute I felt terrible we hadn't realized the vomiting had affected him that much. And the GI told us to watch his weight to make sure it didn't keep spiking but it hasn't.

Lo2 was 2nd percentile for weight, 3rd for height and 22nd for head when he was born a month early. At his two month appointment he was 60th for weight and 86th for head size. The pediatrician said we should keep an eye on his head to make sure it wasn't growing too fast, but I think he was just catching up to his true place on the chart. At his four month appointment it wa in the 93rd percentile. His brother is 95th for head size. It makes tummy time and getting shirts over their heads hard but they are fine!

@Mrs Green Grass: totally agree!!

I worried a lot when T was a baby because he was so small he wasn't even on the charts when he was born. For most of his life he has been around 5th percentile for weight and 15th for height. I stopped being concerned about food at age 2 for no real reason other than he's old enough to decide when he is hungry and can tell me when he wants or needs something. He's 29 months and still shy of 25 lbs. Me and my husband we're the same way as kids so it's genetics rather than food intake.

No, I don’t really worry about it. I "worry" about getting in trouble with the ped because LO has gone from 75%+ to 20% (or less), but I don’t actually worry about her growth. She eats well (both variety and amount) and she’s healthy. I was OFF the growth chart (under 1%) until I was like 3 or 4 and I’m perfectly average now in height/weight so her % now is just not something I’m going to stress over.

She's like 97th for height and like 82nd for weight. She was 100/100 until she got closer to 2. It used to bug me when she was little because this bitch woman I used to hang around who used to talk about how her daughter was so "tiny and cute" and how giant C was. As she got older and I realized my friend was a terrible person, it bothered me a lot less. lol

@yellowbird: @SeptMomma12: @oliviaoblivia: C is 2.5 and commonly gets mistaken for 3-4 also. People are always shocked when I tell them how old she is. Of course, she got mistaken for 2-3 months old as a newborn. ha! But yeah, the only thing that worries me now is that people's expectations of her behavior are not realistic because they assume she is older than she is.

@yellowbird: Same here! My LO is literally off the charts in height and 97th percentile for weight. I worry that he is so much bigger than all his peers. And the doctor said we have to be very careful that people don't expect him to act the age he looks. He just turned 2 but commonly gets mistaken for 3.5 or 4.

No, I don't worry because both kids have always been taller than average for their ages.

@mrbee: long legs and limbs also make a person appear taller than they are! olive looks like she has much longer legs compared to her torso. two people can be the exact same height, but usually the person with the longer limbs seems taller.

Not so much since our kids don't look small in height and weight. My oldest is probably average with height and I have a feeling he won't be as tall as his little brother who is taller for his age. He's been wearing 3Ts for months now and he's almost 31 months old. His weight is in the 93% which is why he needs to wear 3Ts. His waist and butt are both thick but he's not overweight by any means. Just has a lot of squishy fat on him which I'm sure he'll lose soon enough with all the running around the boys do together.

I guess that's probably wishful thinking though, poor kid. L and O should be each others wingman when they get older

I worried a lot from her 1 month appointment until her 4 month appointment, just because every month she would be in a lower percentile than the month before, so she wasn't staying on her own growth curve.

But once we got her MSPI figured out, she got a lot better and has always been on track. So now I don't worry much.

I would absolutely worry if something seemed really off, though--a huge jump or dip either way. I would wonder if I wasn't feeding enough, or too much, etc.

@petunia354: Are you and your husband tall?? I'm having the same concerns. :(

I realize it seems superficial. I do worry about his height. My husband is 5'6" and I'm 5'0". I know from my husbands experience and the seeming desire of women to only have 6'0" tall men, it's hard for the shorter guys. I hope he at least gets my husbands height.

I think it's easy not to worry when your kid is somewhere on the chart... I mostly don't worry about it now that Dylan is 2 actual, 20.5 months adjusted, but when you are below the chart, food is always on your mind. He hit 20 lbs (20.5 actually) at his 2 year visit which was our Ped's goal. Our new goal is 22 lbs by age 3. His height and head circ. are on the real chart though (not adjusted) which is comforting.

@yellowbird: I have the same worries. I'm not concerned from a health standpoint, but from a social one. DD is 99% in height and 85% in weight I don't want her to be bigger than everyone else (especially the boys) and certainly don't want her to feel self-conscious of her size. I was taller than my classmates until high school and it wasn't always great.

We keep an eye on it for sure since he was born with some health issues but he's just a slow grower. At almost 30 months he's just reaching 26lbs. He's also on the lower end for height, which makes him proportional so he doesn't really look that small.

His weight doesn't bother me because he is still pretty solid, but I worry about his height for sure. He was late preterm at 34 weeks but I'm hoping he'll catch up to his peers at some point!

@mrbee: We've always kept an eye on it because she's been in the 5th percentile or below for height and weight since she was born! Everyone says she looks tall too - it's bizarre. I think she has a short torso (like me) and long legs, so they look at her legs and think "tall."

Yes. My daughter has always been slim. The first 18 months I was okay with it, but as she has gotten older I have become more and more worried. She's a terrible eater and when she is sick she doesn't eat at all, and she has ZERO reserve. I feel like maybe sickness wouldn't be as hard on her little body if maybe she had some meat on her bones!

I found out at her last doctor appointment that she has dropped 35 percentiles for weight over the last 6 months. She weighs 25 pounds at 29 months. I worry for sure.
