I have random thoughts like that too. My LO is not mobile yet so it's more about him stopping breathing while he's sleeping, or I sometimes worry that I'll accidentally drop him. I can only imagine the thoughts I'll have when he starts crawling!

Yes!! I visualize the scariest what-if scenario in my mind. Then make safety adjustments appropriately. I used to cut a puff in5 little pieces, because what if she chokes. The other day, she grabbed a pencil and started to walk, putting it near her face. I snatched it away, firmly convinced, she nearly poked an eye out and Thank God she is not blind.

I've been saying that this is a healthy, protective thing! I do take a few safety risks in other areas (no carseat on the plane) so I'm not completely consistent.

I do all the time, i hate it! I constantly have to check the pack and play to see if hes still breathing. I also think really bad thoughts about other babies who have died in bad accidents and relate it to what im doing. like when i'm giving LO a bath I will think about him drowning or when I carry him outside I will think about him falling to the ground and hitting his head :((

I do this all.the.time. Ugh. I hate it...but I'm happy I do that the same time because my husband doesn't at all. I seriously lay in bed at night thinking of ways my LO's could get hurt and how I can prevent it from happening.

I'm probably the queen of this. I know thousands of different ways that kids can die and they replay in my head over and over again. Guns, ATVs, motorcycles, balloons, speed boats, near drownings, lawn mowers, horses, and boppy pillows are high on my list. The worst though are the freak accidents like a cliff giving way, crossing in the crosswalk, falling off the bunk bed or falling out of a window. I've seen every single one of these more than once and can relive them in an instant.

I try not to think about it but since we are living in Los Angeles area, I am a bit paranoid with the earthquake and can't stop thinking what if we are not together when it happens.

@mrbee: Doesn't that turn you into a walking ball of anxiety? I mean, I understand it crossing your mind, and I understand wanting to make sure you are on top of keeping your children safe. But, if I was thinking about any of my family dying several times a day, I think I'd go crazy. Or at least I'd have an ulcer...

I worry about it every single day, and so does DH. He actually probably woke up more times during the night than I did during LO's first year because he was always worried about SIDS and wanted to check the baby's breathing.

I also stress daily about what LO's life would be like if one or both of us died.

I am absolutely terrified of something happening to my LO but really try hard not to think of it. She's only a month old but I already know I wouldn't be able to cope if anything ever happened to her. SIDS is my biggest fear and if I'm not holding her, I'm constantly checking on her to make sure she's still breathing.

I will be really happy when she hits 6 months as the risk of SIDS drops significantly - although I'm sure then a whole new set of worries will take over! I hate being a worrier...but I guess on the plus side, it makes me hypervigilant about ways to keep LO safe.

I try not to think about it bc I'm not sure I could survive if something happened to my LO. Early on when she started sleeping long stretches I would go and touch her to make sure she was still breathing. Right now I can't even imagine her growing up and staying out late...i feel like I would just stay up worrying until she came home...Hooefully with time it gets easier

My LO is 3 months, a boy, and tummy sleeps. I don't sleep well at night, even with him literally touching my side of the bed in a bassinet and napping beside me during the day because I am so paranoid about SIDS. We had friends lose their 3 month old boy on New Years Eve and the thought of it consumes me a lot of times. I hate it.

LO isn’t born yet but I worry about him dying every day. When I don’t feel him kick for a little while I get completely paranoid. Even when I do feel him kick sometimes I worry if he’s not kicking super hard…like, is he losing strength?? It’s kind of ridiculous. I have a feeling that this will not change, even once he’s here.

I think about this many times a day.

A lot of my parenting decisions are based on minimizing the chance that the kids will die. It motivates me to keep the kids safe! So while a bit macabre, I think it's a good thing that I am constantly thinking about different ways they could die (e.g. if Charlie goes into the bathroom, I imagine that maybe he could jump headfirst into the toilet and drown so I will get up and hustle him out of there. If he goes into the kitchen, I think about how if he pulls some hot grease down off the oven it could burn him all over. If Olive has a high temperature, I'll think about her burning up out of control.)

Does anyone else think about this stuff? Do you worry about your LO dying?
