I do use cloth diapers from time to time at home, but I just can't make it work all the time and keep up with it. </p> <p>Honestly I really don't care how anyone but myself and my husband feels about our choices to diaper, feed, and raise our son. I'm just too darn tired keeping up with our son, the house, and my job. </p> <p>I had a friend start to freak out on me last week because I put down a blanket on the floor in front of our seats at the ballgame and let my son roll around on it. I've had that reaction, too.. I live in the city, we send out our laundry and I work full time. I'm sorry, I'm not going to sit around with a steaming pile of poop diapers for a week, nor am I going to wash it out in the sink or tub. When I've had to do that with blowouts on DS's clothes, it's absolutely disgusting and I have to bleach the sink or tub twice afterwards, so no thanks. He's 15 months now and has been in cloth most of his life, except following a round of antibiotics. Those diapers were so nasty there was now way I was sticking with cloth. We offset the initial cost by buying used diapers online and adding a few new ones here and there to our stash and selling off the ones we didn't like. DH and I both work full time with 35-60 minute commutes each way, so it is possible to do it while working if you want to. Also we use cloth when we are out and about, even when we are traveling. It adds 2 loads of laundry a week, but DH does all of the regular laundry, so I don't really notice. I don't soak or rinse, dunk or spray, so it really is easy. I get more poop on my hands changing a diaper than I do washing his cloth diapers, and a simple washing of my hands takes care of it. We also use disposables at night though, since we haven't found a single diaper (cloth or disposable) that DS can't wet through during the night and they keep him dryer. </p> <p>I don't really care what other people do. I do like to tell people about cloth, because many people don't know that they are much different than they used to be and are much easier to use. But I try not to be preachy and get too into it, unless the person wants to know more. My sister was able to spend less than $200 on her stash (including diaper pail, liner, wet bags, cloth wipes etc), and hasn't bought one additional thing. Obviously $200 for 2+ years is cheaper than disposables. But then there are people like me who think it's fun to buy them and have spent $500+ on diapers... oops. I am trying to recoup the cost though.
