@graceandjoy: I actually got DD to put on her nightgown last night. :) It lasted a half hour. Diaper only to bed.
She also prefers to wear jeans, I'm lucky to get her in leggings!

@SweetCaroline: Yeah this was prompted by me looking at cute winter/holiday matching nightgowns for the girls! Thanks for the Primary suggestion!

Both of my kids starting at age 2 sleep in outfits they will wear the next day. So, no PJs.

They only wear comfy clothes (no jeans for example).

DS loves to wear one of his dads T-shirt’s to sleep in. We live where there are long cold winters. He doesn’t seem bothered by the temp. If he wears warm pj’s he usually ends up taking them off and sleeping in underwear.

Primary sells pajama separates, so yiu could get pants that way. Carter's deives me nuts when they sell 3 piece jammies, so I buy separates from Primary to make pairs. I'm nutso.

As a kid, I liked the idea of nightgowns and liked wearing them outside of bed. However, in bed they tangle up in my legs, ride up and make me want to rage!

I bought DD a tank style nightgown for summer time on clearance, but haven't been able to pull the trigger on winter nightgowns.

Yes, mostly in the summer. It’s frigid where we leave and we keep our house on the cooler side.

I did get them flannel Christmas nightgowns last year that are long and warm. They wear those through winter and don’t complain.

My daughter is OBSESSED with nightgowns. I find her with them all the way up to her neck and no comforter almost every night but she doesn't seem to care. Maybe you could try bicycle shorts under them instead of leggings or pj pants?

@graceandjoy: I am a t shirt and shorts, whatever I have to sleep in. I have exactly one set of pjs that my MIL gave me and I occasionally wear them, but I don't really understand them.

The funny thing is I don't even wear actual PJs! I just wear random leggings/shirts and DD1 is always like, why don't you have pajamas mommy?!

DD wants to wear nightgowns but so far we haven't used them because she would need help going to the bathroom in the night and I don't want to get up and help her :silly: If you want her to wear pants but don't want to break up other sets you could just buy some solid color leggings that match the nightgowns?

My 6.5 year old daughter likes nightgowns, we do a mix. She started wearing them about a year ago? My mom wears them, so thats where she was introduced to the idea. She doesn't even wear underwear underneath them and will frequently have the nightgown bunch up to her armpits in her sleep. We live in a cold climate and her room is chilly at night, but there is a heavy duvet on her bed and she doesnt wake up or complain about being cold so she must have figured out how to pull it up and keep herself covered.

My problem is that in the US nightgowns aren't considered tight fitting so they have to be treated with flame retardant or be made of a naturally flame resistant material (like polyester which I try to avoid). I've settled on getting her ones that are a cotton/acrylic blend like bodens but they are expensive.

@Ajsmommy: Funny you say your DD would rather be naked. I was wondering how so many people keep their kids IN pjs. We put them on DD after bath time but when she gets in bed, off they come. She never complains that she is cold though so I let it be.

I WILL say one thing I do like about nightgowns is their tummies are fully covered! Sometimes when we're nearing the end of a size I hate that their tummies get exposed :silly:

@graceandjoy: yes even when we lived in the Northeast my daughter had always had a combo of some night gowns and some pj sets. We keep their rooms warms enough that its fine even if she kicks off the comforter and her legs are bare. Now we are in the south where is much warmer so more nightgowns and less pj ets

@Ajsmommy: So just go pantless and either she's fine or she'll pull up the covers. I mean it's very warm in her room at night, I just feel weird letting her go pantless because even in the summer we have AC on and they perpetually wear long sleeved PJs!

@agold: Yess thank you for letting me know I'm not crazy haha! I'm the same; we're in long sleeves year round, just cotton vs fleece in the winter!

Ok, this question came out b/c I had a few cute matching gowns in my cart @ Carters (B1G1 clearance!)

My almost five year old loves nightgowns. She went through a phase where nightgowns were the only sorts of pjs she'd wear. If we even tried pants, she'd take them off as soon as we left the room and just sleep in a shirt.

We're in the DC area, so not super warm but not as cold as the northeast through the winter. I wondered if she'd be chilly through the night, but she's never complained (and also never sleeps with covers). We dress her in shorter nightgowns in the summer, but switch to longer (almost ankle length) fleece or flannel nightgowns for winter.

@graceandjoy: I don't like nightgowns for that exact reason. They are so cute, but not practical because I like their little leggies covered at night and the blanket is not guaranteed to do the job. I also don't like to break up pj sets, so random bottoms with a nightgown would drive me nuts. FWIW, I actually sleep my kids in footed fleece pjs all year long and I'm in a warm climate. But the inside of the house stays the same temp.

I don’t think my girl ever had a nightgown until she was 5 or 6 and heard about them from a friend. I agree it seemed cold to me! But when she does wear them it doesn’t bother her. We live in a warmer climate but now when it’s cold she always wears 2 piece.

That said I grew up in nightgowns (in cold Michigan) that my mom made and never thought about it! Except we had some floor vents and I used to love to stand over them and puff up my nightgown with warm air 😀

My DD used to ONLY sleep in dresses or nightgowns from about 2-5 yo. We let her use soft cotton simple dresses as well as proper 'nightgowns' because whatever is comfy for her works for me.
That said, we live in FL so the weather isn't as much of a factor, but we do keep the AC lower and in the winter it can be chilly. I think she stays under her covers pretty well though. We never pair nightgowns with pants, but she does like her long-sleeve/pants pj sets just fine now. If she gets cold, will she wake up and get under her covers?

DD1 has 1 hand me down nightgown and I usually let her wear it with a random pair of PJ leggings. We live in the USA-NE so I don't think I'd let her just wear the nightgown with no pants, esp since she kicks off her comforter.

She is asking for more night gowns but I'm hesitant because then I'm always pairing them with random PJ bottoms, thus breaking up the other sets? Am I way overthinking this??
