I think this is because she always took care of other children for whom "mom" was not her, and it was confusing for the little ones to hear "mom" all the time when it wasn't their mom. I still call her by her first name sometimes. People comment on it all the time. It never seamed to bother her. I think it's precious. And he went through a phase where he only called my husband by his first name and he started calling me "girl." We thought it was funny and it only lasted a few weeks. He randomly calls my MIL by her first name. He likes it and encourages it; I'm not so into it but I don't mind that much. She also throws our names into other conversations on occasion. I don't really like when she does it- I try to remind her that I'm her only Mommy and she can just call me Mommy or Mama. I think she gets confused because her friends all have a "Mommy" but their names are different for her?
