I had a 6' artificial tree that I bought from Target for $20 many, many years ago that I used in my condo prior to meeting DH. Last year we finished our basement and I set that one up in the tv room with some lights but no ornaments. I loved having it on while we were down there and will probably continue that. But otherwise, we only have the family tree upstairs that we all decorate. :)

We have our big, real family tree in the living room. I decorate a large fake tree on our porch. We have 2 small fake trees that are lit and decorated around the house. And DD had one in her room last year. DS did not but he might this year. I just love Christmas decorations and I always say the Christmas lights put off just the right amount of light!! It's not too bright or too dark... I am always sad when i have to take everything down. I also have prelit garland I use on our stairs

We have a tiny tree in our girls’ room. It fits a mini string of lights and a few small ornaments. It’s my old tree from my dorm room. We also have a smaller (5 ft) tree we put downstairs in the play area.

We have a real family tree in the living room and then a maybe 2-3 foot artificial tree in the room my kids share. They LOVE it. I bought small plastic ornaments for their tree (can't have anything breakable with my littles), string lights, and a light up star for the top. I put it on their dresser.

Hi, my name is Sam's mom and I'm a Christmas addict...

Sooooo, we get a 9' tree for the living room, there is a 6' basement tree, a 18" tree in our son's room, two 3' trees outside the front entry, I decorate 3 trees in the front yard (just lights), and am considering adding another tree this year 😬

We have a big family tree downstairs and last year we put a small one in the playroom for the first time. The main reason is because I have a very particular color scheme that I like to maintain for our big family tree and my son was wanting a place to put all sorts of wacky ornaments. So we got him a little tree that he could decorate however he liked. He ended up taking just about anything you could imagine and turning into ornaments (tp rolls, carton lids, etc) so it was a fun thing for him to have.

@PinkElephant: both of my girls (4 & 6) have a mini tree for their room. We got them at Target - I can’t remember how tall they are, but they sit of their dressers so not too tall. Target also has a line of “mini” decorations for their small dresses so they rainbow (plastic) bulbs and garland and mini LED star on top.

We just finished our basement so I'm excited to put up a 2nd tree! The upstairs tree will be my 'pretty' tree with the coordinated ornaments, and the downstairs tree will be a free for all for the kids to decorate.

Yes, I plan to put a small (2 ft?) Tree in each kids room when they are around 4 and less likely to topple it or be TOO distracted by it. To me it will add to the decorations and holiday "feel" around the house, and I have too many ornaments as it is, so we can then spread them out.

We got a "basement tree" last year, mainly because the boys were desperate for a tree with a star on top but I'm emotionally attached to our angel. We got a set of red and green allegedly unbreakable balls for them to put on it as well, and then maybe it will also be the location for most of the craft ornaments they'll churn out over the next six weeks.

We bought DD a small, fake tree when she was very little. It's one of those cheap white-tinsel kinds. We bought her soft, felt ornaments (little bears, snowmen and Santa with scarves) and felt birds from Ikea. Anything non-breakable that she can put up and decorate herself without worry.

Now that she's older (7yo), I'm thinking about getting her something new and maybe looking for ornaments that are more meaningful to her.

We do one family tree in the living room and a few years back got a little tabletop pink tree and a small string of lights for her bedroom. It acts as a nightlight during the season. She has some sparkly star ornaments and a string of pink garland for it, but we don't put any gifts underneath - those all go under the big tree.

@Hypatia: Two years ago DD1 and I had a Christmas sleepover in the living room with the tree, just her and I. Last year I skipped it because DD2 was just a couple weeks old but I would love to bring it back this year again <3

We have a big family tree downstairs. We also have a smaller tree in the hallway upstairs area in between the kids bedrooms (there's like this nook area). It's a kid height tree I picked up at Michaels and we usually take out all the ornaments they made in school and let them go to town decorating it. My oldest is 7 and she loves pulling out all the ones she made from years past. (I started writing the date on the back of school ornaments we save so the kids know how old they were when they made it)

My daughter asked to put our Christmas tree up last night since Halloween was over. She’s ready to skip right over Thanksgiving, I guess!

We did a playroom tree in addition to our family room tree last year. It was fun to put up...but the kids weren’t as in to it through the season as I expected. They kept trying to move all the ornaments to our main family tree and that was the. Other draw for them. :)

This year, my 4.5 year old has asked if she can have a small tree in her room. Which probably means her little sister will want one too! I think we’re going to try it, because they’re both so excited about the idea. As a kid, my mom let me set up a small fake tree (like 2-3 ft tall?) in my room and I loved making ornaments for it.

We only have one bigger family tree. We have a problem with possessiveness in our house right now, and we don't want to encourage a feeling of, "This is MY tree." The whole point of Christmas is that we're coming together as a family to share in the beauty and goodness of the season. Maybe if my DD (almost 6) was in a different stage of life, we might do it. But right now, I want to emphasize that this is something central for us all to enjoy as a family, without it belonging to any one person.

We also want to start a tradition of the kids camping out under the tree on Christmas Eve, so having one big tree works better for that.

We only get live trees for environmental reasons, so that's probably another reason I hesitate to get any smaller trees--I don't want anything else I have to water!

My older two (I guess eventually all 3) each have one of those really small artificial trees - maybe 12”? Just enough for a string of lights. They put ornaments they’ve been given and school project-y stuff on them usually. I think it’s fun! If we had more space I might do a 4’ tree they could share. We had that growing up and I always loved it in addition to the big tree. The smaller trees are great for just fitting on a table.

I get out all my Christmas books Nov 1

Eta forgot to add where they go - the little trees can move around but often go in rooms to hide them from littler fingers so there may be an advantage to that if they feel particular about who can touch what ornaments etc :silly:

Okay, so now that Halloween is officially over (no rescheduling in this rainy town!)....my kind is moving to Christmas.

I’ve been thinking about doing a “kids tree” for awhile now. I’m debating whether I’d like to do one bigger playroom tree, or smaller trees for each girl’s room (there are three of them 3, 5, and 7). Oh, and I’m taking artificial trees we reuse yearly.

If you give your kids trees...where are they? What size are they? What goes on them?
