He's never paid much attention to it. This year at 3.5 he likes to put the ornaments back on when the dog knocks them down, but he doesn't mess with it otherwise.

This thread just reminded me that my LO turned on the tree this morning (we have a push button on the floor that controls all the lights) and I never turned it off..... thank goodness the tree is well watered and we have all LED lights

DD1 never really messed with it even as an infant. Now at 3.5 she really loves our tree. There are times where she'll just sit on the hearth and stare at it. Then proclaim "I love our Christmas tree! It's so pretty."

DD2 (15m) on the other hand, will not leave it alone!!! She loves to take ornaments off and runs away. She thinks it's so funny. It's equal parts hilarious and frustrating!

My son is 2 and as soon as we put up our tree we stressed to "look with your eyes" so now he looks at our tree and everyone's tree real up close with crazy eyes but he doesn't touch them!

We didn't have a tree last year when he was 1 because we moved on December 26.

My 3 year old has accepted that we only touch the tree when we were setting it up, and now we leave it alone. What she's obsessed with is the advent calendar. She wants to move the reindeer multiple times a day, every day.

Our 21mo is really pretty good about the tree. We also don't have fragile ornaments, and we tied it to the alarm box on the wall to prevent it from falling over. (The alarm is not activated.) We are more concerned about the cats to be honest.

I've been reading Janet Lansbury's "No Bad Kids" so Blake has gracefully given me the opportunity to practice the techniques in the book all day every day in relation to the tree. 😳 We've progressed from pulling on the branches to just standing a good distance away and throwing balls and toy fruit at it. It's a work in progress...

We only have a little one up in the basement so far, so it's really only an issue when we are down there playing with the toy kitchen. Alice couldn't care less about the tree, but it holds a special appeal for Blake (So. Many. Balls!!!). We may go ornament-less for our upstairs tree, or put it in the 4 season room so we can close the sliding glass door and admire it from a distance.

Funny you posted this bc last year DD was one and didn't bother the tree at all, this year she's already taken down a few ornaments. I wasn't planning to block it off since she didn't bother it this year... sooo I'm wondering if we'll have any ornaments left by Christmas day!! :silly:

we had LO (3yrs) help us put up all the ornaments. Maybe bc she got to arrange the tree to her liking, (all her favorite is like touching the floor bc it's on the lowest branch), she's left it alone. She will occasionally re adjust some to her liking but it all stays on the tree.

No and it is driving me crazy!!! DD2,(22,months) is constantly pulling fragile ornaments off the tree - I tried to put most of my fragile ones up high but she has a good reach and can climb on the couch to get to them, so it was a futile effort.

We have hard floors on most of the ground floor so she's already managed to break three ornaments, including one of my expensive waterfords. I am about to gate off the lounge and keep them both out as I think I might seriously lose the plot if she breaks anymore of my ornaments!

We are getting ours this weekend, and I'm worried about my 18 month old...she's a climber to the point that she stacks step stools, trash cans, etc. to get to what she wants. No amount of naked tree at the bottom will be enough to stop her. I'm hoping the 3.5 year old can obey rules, but her listening has been terrible the past week or so. I may just buy them their own little tree for distraction.

eTA: when DD1 was 18 months, I taught her the tree was hot and she didn't touch it. DD2 talks a lot about things being hot (radiators, steam pipes.....we live in a Victorian era home, haha)...so I may employ the "ouch, hot, don't touch!" Tactic with her,

Last year she did awesome! This year is a little tougher, day one was the hardest. She actually had a few timeouts that day because she just could not listen (I can't imagine how hard it must be not to touch it!) but she's done well the rest of the week. I still have to remind her not touch but she does okay, even when I'm not in the room. My 7 month old rolled on over and started munching on the tree skirt right away but now it's like she doesn't even notice it anymore.
