My stepdaughter loves to help DH when he assembles stuff. She helped with the crib and dresser assembly for LO and was so excited to be doing something for the yet to arrive LO. It took longer but at 9, she was actually quite helpful:

E always gets involved with the furniture building, much to DH''s (chief furniture builder) annoyance. He has added "err, can you get her please?" to his repertoire of furniture building phrases, which also includes "this is badly designed", " the instructions are wrong" "there aren't enough screws" and a million c-bombs. :silly:

I'm assembling some IKEA furniture tonight, and my kids are "helping" me. It probably doubles the amount of time it takes to assemble the furniture, but the kids sure love it!

My main goal in this whole process is to allow the kids to feel helpful, while preventing them from realizing that they have absolutely no ability to assemble furniture whatsoever.

Do your kids like to "help" when you assemble furniture?
