My 9 month old likes the salt air and the sound of the ocean (he rocked out 2 hour beach naps every day during our vacation).... but the actual sand and water are a big time no go with him. She likes to sit in the surf and play with the wet sand. My youngest is terrified of the ocean. She doesn't even like to be in view of it. I'm with you on reading a book in the shade. I was never into them growing up, but my wife was - so I guess they take after her! My daughter likes to sit on the beach and play in the sand, while my son likes to bodysurf and jump into the waves. Me, I prefer to read a book in the shade. </p>
