If I am at a restaurant that I must eat something that I know LO won't eat (eg. SUSHI !!!!!) then I'd order something for him separately. If it doesn't matter, a casual lunch, or if it is a restaurant that is very casual and they don't mind if you share or not, I would definitely just order one dish and share. Many times I order for LO from the kids menu just because I feel bad. We always basically take the whole meal home and he can eat for days! He is 3.5, will be 4 in 2 weeks. He will usually eat all the fruit, but grazes on the rest. Usually the kids (3 and 21 months) will share 1 kids meal but we'll get an extra cup of milk. For some places (ex: Japanese restaurant we go to that has smaller portions and 1 toy), they will each get a kids meal. Some days DS literally eats like a beast! We mostly go out for breakfast and always get him his own meal because he's a big breakfast fan and will eat at least most of it (the kids breakfast at our favourite place is one egg, 2 pieces of bacon, toast and home fries, and he gobbles it up). Otherwise it depends on what we're ordering and whether he's more likely to share ours or get a better meal if we order him his own.
