I like when sibling names "go" but they don't have to match.

Im a little turned off when they are super matchy matchy. That being said, my favorite name for another girl is Caroline Josephine, which would give C and her sister matching initials. lol

We dont' have a second LO but already have names pretty much agreed on, if it's another girl they have matching letters (not really on purpose, but it was our second choice for LO) and if it's a boy I think it goes with DD but not matching.

@Pink Champagne: I hate that, too! My husband loves the name Colin for a boy & while I don't hate it what happens if we have a third baby? Then I feel obligated to carry on the C tradition and I just don't like that.

I despise matchy matchy names (like when siblings names all start with the same letter- I'm looking at you, Dugger family) but I don't mind similar eras or similar style names.. I think most parents have a naming style/preference that keeps names of children from being too polar opposite.
I mean, my LO is named Jackson Andrew, and if we ever have another boy, we will probably named him Theodore (Teddy). We didn't mean to pick names of past presidents but it just sort of happened that way! ;)

I think you should go with what you like and not worry about matching.

FWIW, DH, DS and I are all L's. It puts some pressure on baby 2's name, but we have decided that we will pick what we like even if it isn't an L.

I wouldn't want sibling names to rhyme or all start with the same letter, but I think it is important that they have some sort of similarity. I read the Swistle Baby Name Blog a lot and she does a great job of explaining and talking through sibling naming choices.

I don't know what makes some names "go" together and some "not go" together...the only thing that I can think of is when people stick with one initial (Kardashians anyone?).
But, I guess having one child with a verrrry classic name and one with a verrrry trendy name might seem a little funny.
I think you should name your new LO whatever you love!

I don't think they need to match and I tend to prefer they don't but I think it is ideal to have them sound nice together. When my parents were trying to figure out what to name my youngest sister I remember them calling all four names for dinner to see how they worked together  . Of course I think the primary priority is being names you love!

Don't have another one, but if we do, the name will be similar in origin (ie: greek). If we have a son someday he will have DH's name. We have NO clue what we would name a girl. Everything I like is too similar to P's name!

My siblings and I all have similar names. My sisters are all long, french names. Then my half siblings names are classic and long, though one is english and one is hebrew origin.

We're thinking about names for our next LO and are running into this as well. I don't like matchy matchy names (things that rhyme or start with the same letter intentionally) but I do think there needs to be a flow. I think if there is one very classic, elegant name, and then a super trendy name, it sounds a little bit weird, but as long as you're happy with the names individually, and how they're going to sound together (because realistically, the names are going to be said together all the time!), then by all means, go for it!

To be perfectly honest I think it is a silly proposition that LO's names must match.

I am an adult and NEVER think about whether my names matches with my siblings! I would think it was weird if my parents said they passed on a name they loved because it didn't match my siblings! ha.

I mean sure a boy named Steve and a girl named Liberty doesn't exactly go, but hey a parent can name their kid what they want! I think in general parents choose names that are more similar just because they have a style they like, without even realizing it.

No. I don't prefer matching names. Actually, I would have NOT chosen a name I liked otherwise if it seemed too matchy. But I know several people who named that way, (matching in one way or another) either by accident or on purpose, and like it.
