Anywhere, at any time, but with a cover. without a cover for select audiences/true emergencies. I think it would be weird for someone else to feel uncomfortable if I'm covered. Not my problem if they have issues!

My baby was very used to being covered so we had no problems with that. Sometimes it's nice to go to another room just to get away from everyone but usually I didn't do it.

I only nurse in front of DH, mom, and sis. If anyone is over I like to go to her nursery or to a private room.

I will nurse in front of DH and a couple of girlfriends without a cover. This weekend I tested a couple other ways. At a BBQ when it was all adults, I just used a blanket to cover. Once kids arrived, I went inside the house and still used a blanket. This was after a 7 year old aksed me what thr baby ate, and when I said she nursed, she had no clue what that meant. Didn't want to freak her out/not my place to introduce nursing to her. Yesterday I used my hooter hider at the in-laws. Way better than a blanket since I can look down and see what was going on. If it was just SIL and MIL I may have done it without the cover, but FIL, BIL, and FH's best guy friends were there, too. They don't need to see that! :)

If there are one or two family members, I nurse in front of them (no cover). I haven't figured out the cover yet, so with many people, or not family people in the room, I leave the room.

I'm super modest and the only person I nurse in front of is DH. That's it. Otherwise, I go to another room, including at our house, if we are with other people. LO never liked using a cover and sometimes he's nosy so stops to look around, so that messes up my ability to be discreet at times, lol.

Everyone else I leave the room

I've thought about getting a nursing cover but I don't think I'll have the cajones to use it!

I attempt to use a cover when I'm around ppl other than DH and female friends. The truth is- I suck with the thing. I mean I must be missing something on how to use them or I'm just making it a lot harder than it has to be. I feel like its such a hassle- LO always nurses from both sides so my nursing sessions w/ cover go something like- manage to get myself situated under the cover, attach hungry baby who seems to be shaking her head everywhere other than the right direction, make sure I'm not flashing anyone, somehow manage to remove baby and burp (shes not happy at this point... Doesn't like to be burped) her without flashing someone else, repeat on opposite side. I'm not very good at this at all. It makes nursing in public a pain. I feel like I've picked up some good pointers from this thread tho with the nursing tank and another shirt, so ill try that next time. :)

Sometimes, it depends on the situation. I'm usually covered and will often go seek someplace quiet but sometimes I am happy right where I am.

If someone wants to gossip afterwards because they're in my house and I'm nursing then ah well, hopefully the person on the other end will roll their eyes at the gossiper.

I nurse anywhere typically without a cover, I just can't seem to get the hang of working with one. My friends and family have all been absolutely supportive and never even blinked; some of the ones without kids (male and female!) have actually asked about the whole process. I tend to have a tank top on under my shirts, so there's only a little boob visible between my baby's head and my scrunched up shirt, but even when that's not the case I'm not shy about doing what needs to be done. I live in Austin TX, though, where breastfeeding in public isn't really a rare event. In my experience, no one notices or appears offended by my breastfeeding.

In my home, I nurse how I want. It's my home. I did use covers and other stuff web he was little but he knows how to get those off now. These days, we nurse whenever, however. He is low weight and I can't not feed him when he wants it. I nurse in front of male friends and my dad. But I don't draw attention to myself as much as possible. People are used to it by now.

I usually use a cover since I don't want to make people uncomfortable. But there are certain friends and family members who I know don't care so I don't bother. He likes to pull the nursing cover away anyway so I'm constantly fighting him to keep myself covered.

@Coco Bee: it depends on the situation, but sometimes I figure that being a bit uncomfortable is good for them if it gets them used to thinking of nursing as a normal thing. Adult friends that is, I don't set out to make teenage boys feel awkward! I really am discreet though!

In my house, you best get used to it. But honestly I don't use a cover anywhere because we just can't seem to make it work. I am discreet, but if you watch closely you may get a glimpse of the nip nips. So don't watch too closely.

That said, if it's crowded and noisy I'll usually go somewhere quieter. Or she'll pull off to see what's going on and that rather kills the discreet factor.

I never thought I'd be so comfortable nursing in front of people, but I really just don't care.

Ugh. I'm starting to worry about the in-laws visiting early after the baby is born. When they visit, they stay for a while b/c they living Florida. His Dad is so uncomfortable to be around to begin with, I'm sure I'll have tons of fun nursing in front him. But I'm not going to change how I do things when they're here anymore. I have an udder cover and figure I'll use that.

I only nurse without a cover in front of my husband, female family members (Mom, MIL, sisters, cousins), one of my mom friends that we have play dates with and then at La Leche League meetings. I love not using a cover...it is so much easier!

In the beginning when we were still learning how to nurse and we had visitors, I would have my husband or sister hold a blanket up to shield us, LO would latch on, and then we would cover LO with the blanket. Nowadays, I can nurse anywhere, and I always have a scarf or blanket with me. It is nice though when I am at a friend's house who understands, and they offer us a room!

@Mrsdaredevil: I was that way at first. The first month, I couldn't get a latch while using a cover. If someone was over to see us, I would ask them to leave the room, get a latch, then put the cover on and they could come back in :) a little awkward, but it worked.

I nearly always have a cover. If someone is at MY house I will definitely nurse my baby in front of them, it's my home, my baby, my space and if he needs food - I will supply it! But I still use a cover.

If I am at someone else's house, I ALWAYS ask first if it's okay to nurse in front of them, I've never had anyone say no :) if they did I'd ask to use a private room.

If I'm in public, I do it with a cover, or sometimes in my car if I can't find a place to sit down. Today we went out for lunch and I actually asked for a more private booth so that I could nurse discreetly.

I've noticed that most people actually think I'm just holding a sleeping baby and shielding him from sun/noise/etc. I actually have my aunt's mother, who I don't know very well, think he was just sleeping under a "blanket" and she came and peeked down my udder cover!!! lol awkward... I guess she didn't realize I was nursing and then felt so embarrassed and kept apologizing. I found it funny.

I cover more for the sake of others than for my privacy. I don't think it's a big deal anymore :)

I nurse in another room no matter who is over. I feel really uncomfortable because I can't nurse discreetly yet.....I feel like I have to let my whole boob hang out in order to get a good latch.

I would not feel comfortable nursing in front of male friends or family.

I would feel ok nursing in front of other moms or female family and friends...but for some reason not in front of any of my in laws (MIL or SIL). If its a friend without kids I would leave it up to them if they were ok with it or not. I almost always nurse LO in her room or go to a separate room.

Pre baby I was VERY modest, the 2days in the hospital pretty much killed that. When your learning to nurse you forget modesty. Now that she's two months old, I nurse in public with a cover, and I also cover up I front of male family members. Female family members/close friends I check if they mind and will just nurse n front of them. I find it much easier to go without a cover. DH called me National Geographic for the first month because I was topless often in those early days.
