My mom keeps trying to give my sister and I furniture. Thank goodness she can't just load it in her car or I'd have a crib, two chairs, a piano, a buffet, and three bookcases by now!!

When we get to my inlaws at new years, they're giving us a big old gold framed mirror they were given as a wedding gift. I don't like it. It doesn't go with our decor. Hubby wants it over our couch.....

I told my parents I didn't want any of their crap. My IL's like to give us stuff though. I hang on to it for a year or so, then donate it.

My MIL likes to give stuff to us that DH used as a baby/child for DS. Most notable was a stringy/ratty yellow stained baby blanket. It was so old and ratty that anything it touched got covered in yellow lint. DS was 8 months when she gave it to us, I would not let it near him.

She has also brought us a 30 year old plastic kid chair for the backyard, which DS actually likes so it stayed out. And DH's super ratty/old looking baseball mitt. Way too big for a toddler and I'd like to think if DS ever plays baseball, we can get him a new mitt. She also brought bed sheets that are at least 30 years old.

It was all fine and dandy as DH never expected we use these things until she brought this old Star Wars laminated poster with lights that light up when you plug it in. I assumed it would go in the basement in storage for now, but then DH brought it upstairs one day and I had to stop him from drilling holes in DS's newly painted wall as he was about to hang it up as a permanent fixture. We are still renovating and organizing the rooms upstairs so I managed it hide it again.

My MIL does this all the time, especially lately and it's annoying. I've started throwing things out. And I have asked her to stop. Of course for Xmas she gave my oldest son 3 giant Tupperware bins of Legos, toys, etc. and I'm so annoyed. I'm tempted to sell them all on our tag sale site since our basement is overflowing with bins of stuff she gave us. :/ it was great at first but now it's getting cray and she's just getting rid of stuff and passing it on.

Yes my ILs try to send us home with crap every single time we see them. We have a small apartment and enough clutter as it is and DH has a hard time saying no to accepting things they want to give...drives me nuts. I've taken to just saying "Oh maybe someday when we have more space we will take xyz..." This weekend she tried to give us a giant glass bowl we would have no use for since we already have one. Over Thanksgiving she tried to send us home with a stack of aluminum pans, a pizza pan, and a lamp.

She also made a comment that when they retire and downsize (happening soon) they are going to give us most of their furniture, but since we don't have room yet, it can go in a storage unit She said "But you guys will need to pay for it." Ummmm a.) don't want your really old furniture and b.) we are not paying a couple hundred bucks a month to store your old furniture we don't want.

I am so glad to know we're not the only ones!

Surprisingly my in-laws, who are borderline hoarders, haven't brought that much stuff over. Though they have saved all of DH's old toys even though he keeps telling them to get rid of them. I'm sure they'll appear here sooner or later.

@BeachMama: yes, yes! My MIL does this ALL the time! We just went through a thing on Christmas Day that she made this big deal about where the angel was that they gave us. It's ugly as F and we are afraid she will be offended if we don't put it up. She acted like she had never in her life seen the Angel we did put up. It was on *her* mothers tree!!! She wanted her MIL's Angel up. We usually hang on to stuff for a year or so and will chuck it. I've got a bunch of Cristmas crap she gave us last year that I'm going through and donating to goodwill. A bunch of Shelton dog ornaments she collected over the years and a nativity set. We're not even religious and she knows this!?!

My parents are always bringing over random stuff that they don't want/use anymore. Sometimes it's stuff we can use, but most often it's just junk that we keep for a bit then secretly get rid of. Like 30 year old tennis rackets that are falling apart.

For Christmas they gave us an old gum ball machine (that I don't even remember having in our house) that is huge, heavy, and super unsafe to have with a mobile baby. We have nowhere to put it, and why in the heck would we want a gum ball machine with a 3.5 year old and a 9 month old??? I feel like they're going to be offended if we don't have it in our house, but seriously, where are we supposed to put it??? I think it will sit in our garage for a bit before it ends up at goodwill!
