Like car seat safety, etc? Totally. Both sets take that very seriously. DH and his mom tend to be more helicoptery and it kind of drives me bananas, while my parents and I kinda let LO do whatever unless it's blatantly dangerous. So all in all, I feel like LO's safety is being looked out for sufficiently, thank goodness.

Neither set takes food allergies seriously, but I find that the case with most people who don't have to deal with it. But seriously, my kid might die if you give her that thing with nuts... "Oh, really????" x 1,000 times

I don't think either sets of parents are really update to date with the most recent safety procedures for babies!

My MIL is overly concerned with safety. Irrational, even.

My parents are the opposite and insist that I turned out just fine. :p

It depends. My mom gets a little huffy when I tell her that something she suggests isn't considered safe anymore (FF at < one, bumpers), but in other aspects, she's TOO safety concious to the point of being annoying. She made me switch H's seat once at a restaurant because she was afraid that the waitress would drop the tray of fajitas on her and burn her (um, most likely NOT going to happen). My MIL mostly respects our choices, but doesn't understand why we don't want her smoking in the house while we are there with H. She also smokes in the car, so H will never ride with her. Car seat safety is a big one with both parents, but I think they would listen to us.

My mom does, MIL does not. I remember when we first brough DD 1 home from the hospital and MIL tried to put a pillow in the bassinet with her while she was sleeping. I almost flipped out. I do not trust her with my children which is why I don't ask her to babysit. :)

They are big on their idea of safety. If this was America in the 80's, they would be considered super safety conscious. However, they think any post-80's safety standards or practices are overprotective and unnecessary. It's not that they are laid back about safety at all- just that they reject the idea that there have been advancements since they were parents/

Both grandparents are pretty high strung about the children's safety. Though they're not as strict with car seat safety because they're not as familar with the safety concerns as we are.

My MIL is very careful with the kids' safety! She is generally as paranoid about safety as I am, except maybe I'm a little more paranoid when we're walking around town.

My mom is more casual about the kids' safety. There's no such thing as car seats where she lives, and actually there's not even really cars. Everyone takes motorcycles around, and the general parenting philosophy in that part of the Philippines is pretty much the opposite of helicopter parenting. Several kids drown in the ocean every year where my parents live, because the kids play in the surf unsupervised! My parents wouldn't allow that, but they're more chill than the average American parent, that's for sure!
