Yes i take our two cats regularly (yearly). One of the leading killers of cats is tooth decay/ infections. So it doesn't really matter if your cat is indoor only. It's totally preventable with regular (albeit pricey) cleanings. Part of responsible pet ownership imo.

yes, because of vaccines and heartworm medication prescription. i think it's different for indoor cats, so don't feel badly.

We have been really good about making sure that they get their annual checkup and shots, but were 6 months delayed this year, since we couldn't manage to schedule the appointment around DH's work schedule. I did not think I could manage LO, plus two cats in their carriers, on my own.

Once a year. They have to be up to dates on vaccines to be kenneled when we travel.

Yes, yearly. We board him when we travel, so we have to be up to date on his vaccines. He's also on Trifexis, so he has to be evaluated before the vet will give him a script for that.

Yes, every year. They're 6 and 7 years old so getting to the age where some issues could pop up, and I also really like getting their teeth checked. Plus their boosters of course.

We take our dogs each year to get checkups. If there are any other issues (or anything abnormal), we take them to the vet. It helps that we are both FB friends with the vet techs at our vet. They both know how much we care about our dogs and value taking them to the vet when needed. They are great. One time there was an emergency and one of them came to our house to pick up one of our dogs after he ate something he wasn't supposed to. They knew the DH was home with the twins. Luckily, we are less than 5 min from our vet and they have visited DH when he was in the hospital. So I guess, they are considered our friends, too.

Our two dogs go twice a year for comprehensive exams + dental cleaning. We're on a plan through Banfield and get tons of reminders.

Our dog goes once a year for vax and check-up. She was going a lot for a while b/c of bladder stones. So $$!

@aprild: My cats do the same thing! And the one who needs visits the most always gets sick in the car on the way there too, which is gross. I just found a vet who makes house calls today! Really hoping that works out for us.

Nope, my cats are indoor only so I don't take them unless there is something wrong. The first cat I ever had never went to the vet regularly either and she lived until she was 19 years old. So I really don't think it's necessary.

But if my cats went outside, then I would take them.

I take my dog for a yearly checkup and vaccinations. I also have taken him a couple times more recently, because he has been doing a weird reverse sneezing thing. I have two cats, and I'm like you where I haven't taken them in a while. They are indoor cats and both seem healthy. My big reason for not taking them is they hate the vet! It's so much work just getting them in the cat carrier. And then when we get to the vet, they hiss and get scared. I need to find a vet that will come to my house!

I realized today that we haven't brought any of our cats to the vet in a very long time. They are healthy, they don't go outside, and they never see other animals, so we just haven't even thought about it since before LO was born. Our vet actually retired a few years ago and it was only today that I went searching for a new one. Shame on me. :(

Are you good about getting your pets to the vet for their checkups and shots?
