My husband would completely forget food and milk and diapers. He is clueless how often and how much the baby eats. It is SO frustrating because I have to leave very detailed instructions every time I have to go somewhere, but on the plus side, when he's home with the kids he does tend to overfeed so I don't worry that they're starving. But if he has to go out of the house with them (which he has never done alone with both the 3 yo and 9 mo), it would be a disaster.

My husband would bring nothing. And he knows that this is the sure fire way to incite a riot.

We pack a lot of snacks and meals for our kids, and DH helps me out a lot on weekends. Each kids has a bento for meal time, and DH knows what kind of foods I expect inside. Snacks are easy -- just grab a lot because my kids constantly ask for food. He might slip up and forget their drinks or something.

While he never packs the kids lunches, I think he would pack enough. Our older one is 4 and would probably say what he wants and the younger one basically eats all day so I think he would know to pack a ton!

At home, for sure. I can leave for the day with no instruction and trust he feeds her well. For daycare he might not pack lunch "correctly" because they have rules about having to have a meat, a carb, a veg, and a fruit. We don't always give her all 4 things with every meal.

Yes definitely, and if he wasn't sure he would ask. But we are super into healthy eating so we talk about it a lot and our kids eat a lot, so we can never have too much.

Food is definitely the one area my husband just doesn't get. He can never figure out what to give him or how much without asking me. But if he had to pack something he'd probably overpack because he just wouldn't know what to bring so he'd bring it all.

The only beef I have is that he packs a crap ton of carbs. Where's the protein? Where's the fruit and veggies? I've made a list of carbs, protein, fruit, and veggies so he can mix and match one from each of the 4 categories.

DD is 9.5 months old and DH knows exactly what to bring for her. Even though I'm a SAHM and he's out of town for work 4 days a week, he's still in tune with how much and when DD eats.

Probably not. But he would also probably ask me. And he would probably just assume we could just order her something (she's 2.5) but I always check the menu and bring some pouches just in case anyway.

LO is still getting bottles but DH has no clue how much she normally eats or when. He was shocked at how big the bottle I give her before naps is. He hasn't really done it since she was itty and eating 2oz at most.

I should say that LO had enough to eat for his lunch, since I bought him a banana and fed him the chicken and tomatoes from my sandwich. So with the pouches and puffs, it was enough.

@YouGotMe: I feel it's better to bring too much rather than not enough. I'm still on my one year maternity leave, so I do 90% of the feelings. I don't blame DH, exactly, for not knowing how much to bring, but he's seen me pack lunches and make food for him before. And he helps feed him on weekends. It's just frustrating that I can't ask him to do something and not double check that it's done right.

DH would have packed too much. He seems to think she eats way more than she does but it's always worked out. Both of us are only half sure about how much she eats in a day. Since daycare feeds her 2 meals and a snack 5 days a week.

If you are the primary parent/caregiver, and you ask your SO to pack a lunch and snacks for the baby/young toddler, do they know how much to pack?

We left this morning at nap time to go to a city a couple of hours away. We didn't give him his mid-morning snack, since he's been getting car sick lately. We get to our destination and DH brings the food in with him so we can feed LO. He brought 2 applesauce pouches and a handful of dried cheese puffs. There was a little more in the car, but that's all he brought in for LO who hadn't eaten since 08:30 - it was now 14:30!

I've mentioned to him before that LO eats 3 decent sized meals plus his snacks, and to keep feeding him until he stops eating his meal, since he can't talk yet. A friend of mine mentioned that her husband has no concept of how much to feed her daughter now that she's eating more solids, so I guess this is fairly common? Has anyone else experienced this?
