Thanks all! Just wanted to report that we moved the babes to their own cribs in their own room almost 2 weeks ago, and they've been doing SO much better at night!

Naps are still totally up in the air, but I've mostly been keeping them in the bouncers in our family room so I can catch them waking sooner, rather than having to run upstairs so much!

in the beginning, we had them separated since i was with my parents and we didn't have a crib there. one was in the pack n play and the other a bassinet that my bro lent us. that was for about 4 weeks. they were in the same room and at that age, they didn't wake each other up. but i woke them up to keep them on the same schedule.

we had them in the same crib for nighttime when we got our crib back at our place and they slept together at night. sometimes, we separated them for naps - for months, they wouldn't nap well on their own, so we'd have to divide and conquer. then, they got too big too fast, so we had to put one in the crib and one on the changing pad on the bed (they liked sleeping on it) - we had the 2nd crib sent to my in laws since we knew we were moving to jersey and didn't want to set the 2nd one up. but they were in the same room.

right now, they both sleep in their own cribs. i think it's better to train them together in the same room - they start learning to sort of sleep through the other's cries. for the most parts. they now finally nap in the same room. sometimes in the crib, sometimes on the nap nanny.

not sure about everyone else's twins but i don't think my kids found comfort in each other. i don't think they really noticed each other until like last month.

sorry for the novel! i hope i make sense cuz i'm so exhausted - i need to go to bed!

thanks for the replies!

@junebuglim: yes, its so tricky to find the balance between letting them soothe themselves back to sleep and being a ninja so they don't wake the other! :)

@Oceanis723: that's the timeline we originally were thinking of keeping them together in one crib....glad to know the comfort outweighed the disturbance for your boys. I would feel bad about separating them too early.

Ours slept together until about 6 months then we put them in their own cribs. Their cribs were touching and they usually still slept near each other. They did wake each other up sometimes but it was still easier on them than being separated.

Regardless of arrangement, they've always been in the same room...Our twins shared a bassinet when we first came home from the hospital because they were pretty small (born at 35 weeks). We separated them at 4 weeks - one slept in the rock n play other in the crib/swing. We tried putting them in the same crib but our little boy moved a lot so they've been in their own cribs in the same room since 7 weeks. It took our girl a little longer to get used to the crib so she often slept in the rock n play for naps and overnight. Our boy slept in the swing lot for naps, but now it's cribs for both for naps and overnight.

We still struggle because 50% of the time they stir or wake each other up, especially for their naps which gets frustrating. We try to be swift ninjas and get the awake twin out as soon as possible but sometimes not quick enough. We are also in a sleep regression of sorts right now with both of them rolling in their sleep, trying to swaddle wean, etc... We know we will have to sleep train and have used modified CIO before but think we will have to do it again soon to get over this hump... We are not looking forward to it because of the "please don't wake your bro/sis up!!!!" challenge we face with them sharing a room!

I dont think that was very helpful - sorry! I hope I can offer you better support/advice soon!

For naps? at night? to what age did they stay together?

Ours are 7 weeks and have been sharing at night but have noticed they are stirring each other more lately overnight and am wondering if separate cribs or rooms would help them sleep better. We're dealing with lots of wakeups the last week or two!

Lately they have napped apart in bouncers in the same room. But I just got them both to take their morning nap together in their crib. Maybe they just need more familiarity being closer while asleep and in the crib?

And any other thoughts or advice on twin sleep is welcome too :)
