@pachamama: hahaha isn’t it funny how it’s such a polarizing thing? I’ve gotten snobby with my “extras”, but growing up hands down it was straight out of the box and we loved it! 🙂

@Anagram: I’m with you on Thanksgiving leftovers in general - I just don’t get the fuss. I have a lot of extended family staying with me for Thanksgiving, but we are having the actual Thanksgiving meal at another family members house. My MIL is so disappointed that we won’t have Thanksgiving leftovers at my house and wants to cook Thanksgiving again the next day… Um, NO! I’m so glad not to have the leftovers!

I like stuffing, if it’s well made (thoughtfully seasoned with “extras” like sausage/veggies, not just out of the box)...but one serving keeps me going all year, haha.

I never did growing up because it was just soggy bread but then my mom started making a magical one that she cooked outside of the bird and it is so good. It's the only one I like. MIL makes something else but I need to volunteer to bring it so I can enjoy eating it again. It's a spinach almond stuffing. I'll see if I can find the recipe.

I never really liked the bread based stuffing growing up. When we went paleo-ish a couple of years ago I found this great recipe and my kids love it! Now we have to have stuffing.

I love stuffing, both my MIL's apple, sausage, sage, bread variety and my grandmother's simpler version. Neither side stuffs it in the turkey any longer, and I really like that you can get crunchy bits.

I love it in just about any shape it comes in, however, I probably won't eat it if it was stuffed in the bird (although we did growing up, but no one knew how bad that was back then lol). My family makes cornbread stuffing, and its a really simple recipe. Make cornbread, crumble into a bowl, add chicken stock, sage, salt and pepper, and then if you like veggies you can add chopped up (& sautéed) onion and celery. Easy peasy.

My mom makes amazing white bread stuffing. It's always separate from the bird. I used her recipe once to make stuffing for inside the bird, because I thought you can only improve the turkey by adding delicious filling. Wrong. It was soggy and gross, no one but me ate it, and I've learned my lesson about not mixing the two.

I’ve been put in charge of stuffing for the past 8 years after I made ina gardens sausage herb stuffing once. I add pancetta, Italian sweet sausage, lots of sage, parsley, apples, onions, celery. Lots of butter. Homemade turkey stock. It is hands down, my favorite part of thanksgiving dinner. It is BOMB. This coming from a person who didn’t like stuffing most of her child and adult life. I bake it.

I also do a mix of a crusty sourdough, stale white bread, and any other random bread I have around. But good bread is important. Otherwise it’s mush.

@MoonMoon: Stuffing (we call it stuffing, but cook it outside the bird) is totally the best part of Thankgiving dinner! My aunt makes three kinds - usually plain, sausage, and oyster - and they are all yummy. Of course, I think her secret ingredient is one metric ton of butter. :silly:

I've liked other homemade stuffings (with my husband's family, for instance), but don't find the boxed stuff to be worth it.

I think it's gross and my kids don't eat it, but my husband loves it. When I do make stuffing for Thanksgiving, I make stuffing muffins-- bread and sausage and sage and diced apple. I haven't made them in a couple years though because they're labor intensive and I already have enough to do that day...and, like I said, my husband is the only one who eats them. 😂

Stuffing is pretty much my favorite individual part of Thanksgiving dinner! It's non-negotiable for us. Over the years we've tried lots of variations (cornbread, wild rice etc) but we've settled on the classic one made with regular or sourdough bread and tons of butter and herbs.

It’s always been a favorite, and I love it more in the years since I started making it myself. Now it’s the dish I always bring or make for the thanksgiving meal.
Mine has a mix of white/wheat bread with sage sausage, tons of mushrooms, onion, and parsley. Cooked with butter, broth, and a couple eggs to hold it together when baked (in a dish, never the bird). It’s like a very savory bread pudding but not as wet. I don’t usually have rolls or anything - dressing is my bread :)

@Becky: Aldi has a GF option! I haven't tried it yet bc I keep forgetting I have it. :)

The stuffing I grew up with is something not many people have heard of. You essentially take a loaf of torn white bread and a sleeve or two of crushed saltines and mix them together with some seasonings and eggs. It's stuff into the bird and when it's done, you can slice it. It's actually pretty good covered in gravy. :)

Otherwise, my immediate family was making stuffing with either cubed pretzel rolls or sourdough bread with cooked sausage, seasonings and broth. That is delicious.

However, I'm also GF now so I'll have to stick with the Aldi one or find some good GF bread.
