DH and I don't really celebrate things with each other (anniversary, Valentine's Day, Mother's/Father's Day, Birthdays, etc), but we like celebrating with our families. So, we won't buy each other gifts, but we looove having everyone get together for a big Mother's/Father's Day bbq.

So glad to know it's not just us! At least I'm glad we both feel the same way so no one gets upset!

Our family isn't very big into birthdays for us adults. As for the kids, yeah, we have birthday parties and such.

As for the adults, we don't really do anything-- no anniversaries, no mother's day or father's day. I text my siblings when it's their birthdays and they do the same for me. We don't need gifts and we are fine with that.

Christmas isn't that big either. For years we didn't give gifts to each other (adults). If it was planned, we might do a polyanna.

This past year, was the first year where we got gifts for each couple. It was the first year that all of us were doing well financially, that we thought gifts would be fine. I think that's the extent we would go. We don't need individual gifts. We put all our effort into celebrating for the kids. If any of us had trouble financially, I would certainly be fine with no gifts for the adults for Christmas.

@snowjewelz: we don't, and my family doesn't really.

My mom, brother, sister, husban, uncle and great-grandma all have an August birthday. My mom gets one massive cake, slaps everyone's name on it and we have a cookout. I get a card & phone call on my bday, same with my SIL. So it's all acknowledged but there isn't a party.

We've never officially celebrated any of our wedding anniversaries, and we are coming up on year 6. We bought a house on our one year anniversay (literally that day) so we didn't even go out to dinner. On year 5, last year, we spent a lot on money on landscaping so we didn't do anything fancy then either. Gosh, I think one year we actually forgot to get each other cards. We are so super sentimental over here...

Once Chloe was born we really cut down on gift exchanges with family. My family is rather large and it was getting so expensive, and kind of silly to be buying things for down adults who usually buy what they want when they want. Instead, we focus on kids only & my brother and sister and I pitch in and get our parents something big. Our money goes further when the six of us (siblings & SOs) are pitching in for two people, rather than is buying individually for 9!

My husband's family doesn't celebrate anything, and my family celebrates everything, so I think we're a happy medium. We don't do a lot now, usually just a gift on birthdays/Christmas and we'll go out for dinner or do something fun together for our anniversary. Although I think once our kids are here and they're old enough, we'll probably get a little more into some of the holidays.

@cascademom: This girl I know and her DH are just a very out-there couple in general... So to me it's not that weird but I just never ever even thought about that halfway point so I was like haha. And she really recommended the restaurant they went to, and we were just gonna go try it out on a random date and not wait till an occasion since it's a nice-ish (aka $$) place.

@snowjewelz: Hmm interesting. We waited two years before trying for kids and didn't think that way. Our downstairs neighbor's wife posted a 6 month anniversary thing on FB. They're having their first kid before the first anniversary. She's also a couple years older than me while her husband is super laid back. To me, it just seemed childish. She's someone who I'm thinking is going to have a tough transition into parenthood based off of some of her postings.

@Ms.Pumpkin: Exactly! We don't have the desire or the expectation and we're happy! lol

@cascademom: When I heard my friend went out to celebrate their 6 months anniversary, I was like, I don't even know when that halfway point was! Her reasoning was that they might as well do these things while still in the "honeymoon" stage, before babies, etc.

We're pretty low key. This year, Father's Day wasn't as big of deal as it was last year-being his first one. We usually just go out to dinner for most things like birthdays or anniversary. We celebrate holidays usually with family, but again low key.

I roll my eyes at people who post on FB about their six month wedding anniversary. Just seems to be too much for me.

We don't really do big celebrations or presents for birthdays, Christmas, Arbor Day, whatever.

For birthdays, DH and I have basically the same birthday (one day apart), so we'll go out to dinner, or more frequently, arrange for our summer vacation to happen over that week, so we get to be somewhere nice. But apart from that, we don't really try to do presents or anything. Same with anniversaries- we'll buy something nice that we both use, or go out to dinner.

It helps that neither of us has the expectation or desire for a big to-do, so neither of us ends up being disappointed! We're pretty happy with the arrangement we've got!

DH and I dont do big for birthdays or anniversaries, generally just a nice dinner.

My family, however, is big on it and we generally get together for every holiday.

We do gifts for each other on birthdays and holidays, but that's it. I don't do gifts for my parents/DH's parents/siblings or anything like that. And we only celebrate birthdays and wedding anniversary--nothing else!

We are similar. My DH's birthday was this past weekend and I gave him two small gifts and we had dinner out with our LOs and DH's brother who happened to be in town. We don't really do holidays either. Big celebrations for anything just aren't our thing.

Both DH & I, plus our families aren't really big into celebrations. We'll eat together for birthdays/holidays, but no one really does gifts, or go all out. We did do a surprise bday party for my dad's 60th but that was like one thing in a long long time.

Between the 2 of us, we also don't really celebrate anything. We'd take the time to go out to a nice dinner when we want to, and plan special day trips when it's a good time for us, but not to cater to a special occasion.

I was just thinking about this b/c I had a friend that went out to dinner to celebrate their 6 months wedding anniversary, and another friend that had her DH surprise her w/ dinner & a really cool gift for her bday. Meanwhile, we didn't even really do anything for our 1st wedding anniversary (to be fair I was in the middle of morning sickness).

Sometimes I wonder if I'm missing out and if we should make more effort? Maybe we will for LO(s) sake?
