Switch. He's crazy. I don't care if he's awesome at surgery, his idea of normal birth would make me distrust him completely.

SIX HOURS?!?! Is Dr. A insane? Did he miss the whole "normal labor" part of medical school?

Sorry, that's just the craziest thing I've ever heard. I think practically any doctor would be better than him. Switch!

I would trust your gut and wouldn't keep Dr. A as an option. I say go with B with C as a backup. I ended up with the same possibility - my OB ended up having a family reunion cruise the week before I was due. He got back on my due date, but DD came 3 days early. I had met the other doctors in the practice, and I never regretted having trusted care through my pregnancy.

If switch to B, have C as a backup.

My doctor was with me all pregnancy but wasn't around the night I delivered (neither was our pediatrician, who we loooove).
It ended up being the best thing that couldn't happened. The delivering doctor was like an angel sent directly from heaven, amazing.

I feel like I am missing something or maybe I misunderstood. Are you high risk? Why is he saying 6 hours is too long?

I am hesitant because if you go with B it sounds like you will end up with C and B can't even recommend her? I just had whoever was on call and I had a great experience with a doc I had never met! But, they were all partners...

The doc on call was there the whole time during my labor and it was great.

I would switch to Doctor B and make it a point to meet with C just in case. I think the important thing is leaving Dr. A if you're not comfortable with his practices.

Go with Doctor B if that's who you are most comfortable with. At our practice you just get whoever happens to be on call, so there is a good chance I will never have met the delivering doctor before. Really, I barely saw the doctor during labor with my first. They only called her in for the delivery, she caught the baby, stitched me up, and was gone. It was really the nurses who provided most of the care!

Definitely switch away from dr. A!! I had someone like that but I didn't realize it until it was too late to switch. THANK GOD he was on vacation the day I delivered and his backup was awesome...honestly, you'll see the nurses more than your actual OB. But definitely follow your gut and get away from someone that makes you feel uncomfortable!!

Do anything but stay with Dr. A! If you're having an uncomplicated pregnancy then there's no reason to be with someone who's so high risk. You might end up with an unnecessary c-section.

I'd say switch…it's best to be comfortable and if you already know that A's not quite for you, I'd explore your options. We *love* our Dr., but our hospital is an on-call type of deal, so you end up getting who you get in the end. I'd rather know who I like and don't like so I can at least know what I'm getting into when I go in for delivery.

My current doctor (doctor A) came highly recommended from other professional doctors. He is skilled in high risk surgeries but has a reputation of being a cutter. Meaning, he loves C Sections. He speaks of them very causally and has cut one lady six times. When I expressed my concern he was frank and said if he needs to cut he will and went on to say that laboring for more than six hours is too long and would require an intervention.

DH and I are uncomfortable with this so we tried out a new doctor yesterday (doctor B) who our friend recommended based on his caring nature. He immediately understood our concerns and did not agree with my current doctor's casual view of c sections. He also engaged us on a more personal level and explained so much more to us than my other doctor generally would. We both want to switch to him but he has a planned vacation which starts on my due date! He wants us to think it through before switching to him because I should be familiar with my doctor at delivery and there's only a 50% chance that he would be present. He suggested another doctor (doctor C) I could switch to but he could not vouch for her practices. I do have the option of switching to him and she being my back up doctor if I go into labour after he leaves for vacation.

So what would you do?
Please feel free to comment and give advice. I am 25w 5d and have had no complications thus far but it is getting late!

Thanks for any advice you have to offer!
