@LaughLines: Thanks! I'm kinda hoping my second dose of Clomid does the trick and I get to cancel my RE appointment! ;)

@pui thanks for all the advice! I think right now i'm in 'wait and see' mode, esp since i'm not currently trying, but it does sound like my dr is receptive to putting me on clomid when the time comes. Let me know if your RE gives you any other info, i'll be interested to see how things work out for you!! fingers crossed!

@LaughLines: No my doctor (GP) just kinda gave it to me after all other options were exhausted, lol.

I see the RE September 10th.

I tracked my BBT and used OPKs to conform O... First time ever I saw a sustained temp rise. Also I'm pretty sure my period was also proof that I O'd (otherwise it's quite a coincidence that AF just happened to come back then after being absent for 140 days haha!)

@pui it's good it looks like the clomid is working! was it hard to get the doctor to let you use clomid? did you have to get that from your RE? what are you doing to test for O? temping? OPKs? or is the dr doing testing?

@LaughLines: Sound like you are in my exact position. :\ I have super long (basically non existent) cycles and no known cause of it (blood work and ultrasound all normal). I'm hoping my RE will be able to shed some light on it.

On the bright side I seem to be successfully Oing on Clomid. I took it starting CD121, O'd 10 days later and got my period, ending my 140 day cycle.

Since this is your first cycle off BCP, it's possible you just need to kick start your system and then it will be smooth sailing from there! Good luck!

@LaughLines: I took progesterone in June to get my period going and it ended up taking about another 5 days for it to start after my 10 day prescription. I was feeling down, but it did start! (Mine was due to still not getting my period back after D&C in early march).

so I took 10 days of progesterone to induce period and still haven't gotten it (though the doc said it could take up to 2 weeks AFTER i finish the pills to get it, only 3 days past right now). I'm on CD112 right now.

The ultrasound showed I only had very few small cysts, he said it looked fairly normal and not like PCOS. The bloodwork all came back "normal" and they tested thyroid, Prolactin levels, and Progesterone levels. all normal.

sooo does anyone know of a medical reason for very very long cycles that isn't PCOS, thyroid, prolactin or progesterone related? Not sure if it's worth mentioning but i'm normal/thin weight with no other known health issues.

I charted and waited it out. My cycles are generally longer than average (around 35-40 days), but I did have a few that pushed 90 days. By charting, I realized that my body was just taking longer to ovulate at that time, and it was generally during a stressful period of my life (husband traveling, car troubles, illness, etc.). I had my period induced twice prior to charting, and it didn't result in a normal cycle.

That happen to me also, and I just waited it out. My first cycle off BC right around 100 days. And then it was pretty normal after that. It might not be a bad idea to have bloodwork done anyways. Personally, with what I know now, I wouldn't induce since I'm not convinced of the benefits of more artificial hormones. I'd just let my body work itself out.

I would definitely ask for blood work. When I first went in for a long cycles (between 45-60 days), they didn't do the blood work that was needed to diagnose my PCOS. My friend is a nurse practitioner and told me I needed to request a full hormonal panel (I was having some other symptoms as well). Once those results came back it helped with my diagnosis and treatment.

I had an appointment for long cycles while not TTC. Mine were about 45 days long and semi regular, so a little different from your situation. She just ran blood work similar I think to what Pui mentioned. She wanted to rule out thyroid issues, PCOS, and pituitary problems.

Make sure they do blood work and an ultrasound. Have them check for TSH, Free T3, Free T4 (for Thyroid), Prolactin (for Pituitary), Estrogen and Testosterone. That will give you a good basis to go on.

I would say induce your period now (but still get all these tests)... I am on like CD120+ (lost count) and now I'm wishing I had just induced it.

I went in for a long cycle and...it wasn't really worth it. :/ Granted, I was only on my 2nd cycle off of BCP, and I think I was at CD56 or something (my 1st cycle was 50-ish days I think). My doctor basically told me to wait it out, but if it hit 90 days, I could come back in if I "wanted to" and they could induce a "period." If I remember correctly, they only reason to induce a period was so the lining of your uterus doesn't get too built up (so when you actually would have your period, you wouldn't get flooded out or something equally gross).

Anyway, this is really no help, sorry. I'd say you might be stuck just waiting it out, but it never hurts to call! Good luck!

Today is CD99 for me, the first one off BC, and I have a doctors appt this afternoon. I'm not TTC right now, i'm just concerned my long cycles are a symptom of a problem that may make it hard to conceive when i do want to try.

any advice? I'm not sure i need my period induced because i'm not trying and i dont know that it woudl "fix" the underlying issue... I guess i just want the doc to start doign tests to determine if i do have anything wrong
