The doctor who read her growth ultrasound overestimated (she did have a kind of big head, though, so that's probably why) but my midwives were spot on by feeling my belly.

My first was measuring big and I was told she could be close to 10lbs, she was 7lbs 13oz at 39 weeks. My second was also measuring big, they thought at 38 weeks he was over 8 1/2 pounds. He was born at 38 weeks 5 days and was 9lbs 6oz

At my 36-week ultrasound (actually 36+5), the tech and the MD said that baby was about 6lbs, 11oz. DD was born exactly three weeks later, 7lbs, 10oz. There have been a lot of large babies in my family, so I was surprised that she was so average sized.

I didn't have an estimate very close to delivery but at 35 weeks they estimated my third baby was 7.5 lbs roughly. My first two were big too so I wasn't surprised when they predicted she would be close to 10 lbs, my guess was 9 lb 6... but we were all surprised when she was my smallest at 8#1oz (39 weeks 3 days).

My doctor would never estimate on the size... he would just tell me it's a "small" or "medium" sized baby. He said ultrasounds can be off by 25%, so that leaves a HUGE amount of room for variation in size.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: that article is spot on!

With my first, my doctor kept saying he was going to be a big baby, probably around 10 lbs, and at 38w5d scheduled an ultra sound to check, and told me that we would probably want to schedule a c section and started freaking me out (he was a very calm Doctor, so when he got serious it was terrifying) well my water broke before my follow up appointment on Monday and I delivered an 8lb 5 oz baby at 39 weeks.

This time it just freaks me out because I have a new OB and he's saying it and doing the ultrasound so much earlier.

Everyone said DD was going to be small (most doctors guessed around 7 lbs.). She ended up being 8 lb. 10 oz. As soon as she came out the doctor's first comment was, "This is not a small baby!"

LO was 8 pounds exactly, born at 40+2.

Had an ultrasound and appointment right at 40 weeks and my OB predicted LO would be between 8 and 9, closer to 9 while the ultrasound tech guessed LO would be 8 on the dot - - tech was 100% right!

They both said LO's head would be huge, which was also true.

With my first they thought she was going to be 8.5-9lb at her due date. She was 8lb 5oz when she was born four days late.

With my second, an ultrasound at 41.5 weeks supposedly showed 9lb 5oz but she said that's give or take a pound. The midwife felt my stomach and guessed that it was probably closer to the lower end but that was a contributing factor to my induction just in case she was 10lb. She was born the next day at 8lb 5oz.
