@JHoller25: Thank you for sharing your experiences with me; they sound very similar and it was comforting to hear that my experience is normal. I agree that the term chemical pregnancy is horrible - it makes you think of when dogs have phantom pregnancies and start leaking milk and carrying your slipper about like a puppy. It makes it sound like it was all in your head.

@Jennimac: Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I think they're helping, you know... I'm starting to feel better.

An update on me, for anyone who searches "BBT still high after Chemical Pregnancy" and stumbles on this thread (I've been Googling and I hate it when there's no conclusion!!): My temp dropped this morning - 3 days after I started bleeding, which was 3 days after the bleeding had stopped. So it does happen and I guess is quite normal.

@ali: I experienced a very similar timeline. I experienced a lot of bleeding (like the worst period ever) and an emotional roller coaster. I think you have to make sure you are eating iron rich foods but other than that, frequent dosages of rest and TLC were adequate.

@Ali: I had one chemical pregnancy and when it happens as fast as yours did (mine was similar) your body will probably not react much differently than for a normal period. Everything is tiny tiny inside of you at this point so there's nothing that you'll notice.

I'm sorry (and sorry that you have such a stupid GP...come on!).

@Ali: I'm so sorry this happened to you:(

I had 2 chemical pregnancies back to back (I really hate that term - it makes it sound so "unimportant" but I feel like I have to use it sometimes). I had my betas drawn and I will tell you that they CAN drop FAST. Especially when they were low to start with. With the first one, I got a BFP on a frer and a digi on Thursday night. Friday morning, I had a beta done that came back at 13 I think. On Sunday afternoon I started bleeding. I went to the ER and they did a beta draw to make sure that I was in fact miscarrying, and my beta had dropped to a 4.

So I would say that you probably started with a low beta, and it had dropped by the time you made it to the walk-in center.

And I wouldn't worry about something still being there too much. Your body is going to be out of whack this next month. Even though you were only technically pregnant a few days- you were still pregnant, and that will mess things up. It did for me! With both of my CP, I started bleeding and had the equivalent of a heavy period. I only bled once with each CP.

And I did not temp, but my body was a hot mess. I felt like a hormone ball. And I ovulated late after both. The second month I had to get ovulation brought on by Electro Acupuncture. So don't worry that there's anything left in there - I wouldn't think that early on, that would be the case. But definitely expect for things to not be normal this next cycle. You didn't have a period, you had a miscarriage (I'm very sorry), and your body still has to figure out what to do from here.

Again, I'm so sorry for your loss:(

@Looch: Yeah, your GP needs to refer you I think but the GP wont see you for a blood test until you're 8 weeks or have had three miscarriages over here.

I guess I just want reassurance that everything's normal because I'm really anxious, randomly...... and confirmation that it was actually a CP/MC because denial is starting to creep in now....

Thanks for your replies, everyone. It's comforting to know that other people's BBTs did weird things too....

I don't know how the healthcare system works where you are, do you need a referral to a specific OB/GYN?

Do you have an OB you can see rather than a GP. When I miscarried it was very early as well. I woke up to heavy bleeding and saw the OB that morning. They did a blood test for me and my HCG was at 13 which confirmed that I had been pregnant, but a 13 wouldn't have shown up on a urine test. Even though it was so early my doc still had me do a repeat blood test two weeks later to be 100% sure my HCG went back to zero and we didn't need to do a D&C.

I'm sorry, Ali, that sounds like a frustrating and sad situation...with my CP, my BBT dropped right away but then climbed back up (to the point where FF thought I O'd on day 7 or something like that). I think it just takes a little while for your body to adjust, hopefully your temp goes back to normal soon. I don't think you have to be worried about something being in there because your loss was so early that nothing really had time to form :(

I've had 2 cps - For my first, I got a positive and then started to bleed. For my 2nd, they had me come in as soon as I had a + for a blood test, and repeated it 48 hours later. At that point I knew I would miscarry and the blood test proved it. Since you already are testing -, there's not much they can do. The beta level they would find at this point would be so low as to be non- existent, or "not consistent with pregnancy."

Both of my CPs resolved themselves; at this point you just have to wait for your next period. If you don't get it within the usual cycle, I'd call your ob/gyn again.

My bbt dropped both times but that's just my experience. Your GP reaction sounds weird but he might not take much stock in charting; I know a lot don't, and they probably see more women with no clue about their bodies (think about it, there are so many theres a friggin tv show called "i didnt know i was pregnant!) than the ones who know exactly when they ovulated. That said, I think it's strange that your ob/gyn office isn't communicating with you about the process youre going through or what to do next time you get a +. My dr office was very explicit in telling me that after my 1st loss, that I should call them to come in for a blood test right away. Heck, they even kept what would have been my 1st prenatal appointment so I could talk/cry/vent to my dr for 45 minutes.

I know it's frustrating and you are going through so much right now. Anger is a super-normal part of the grieving process. Hang in there, and I hope you get as many answers as you can soon. Feel free to ask me any additional questions you might have.

@Ali: I'm so sorry this is dragging out for you. My experience was somewhat similar - when I went to the ER for the bleeding (my gyn didn't want to handle it and told me to just go to the ER) they said the test was negative. But like you said, your test was positive and the hcg levels had fallen by that time.

It may be possible that your progesterone is still up, which would cause your BBT to be up? Having a high BBT after a chemical seems to be a common Google search, so it looks like you're not alone.

@Ali: i am so sorry you are going through this. it must be so frustrating trying to process this roller coaster and not getting any support from your providers! It sounds like it might be helpful to see an obgyn who is hopefully more familiar with CP and how to support you. Good luck!

Thanks both. My GP is a grade A idiot and I don't believe a word he says. I guess I just want this to be done and dusted now and my temp being up is driving me to distraction. I'm so over this m/c rubbish now...!

I don't really have any advice. I just wanted to say that I am so sorry that you are going through this and that the doctors weren't any help.

I wouldn't think you would need to worry about anything being left since you weren't very far along. Sorry I don't have anything more useful.

Okay, so I'm 4 days post chemical pregnancy and I have no idea what my body is up to and what to expect next!

Let me recap:

Friday - 10DPO: v. faint positive
Saturday - 11DPO: BFP on a digital

Cut to Wednesday - 15DPO: Bleeding starts.

The bleeding was red and was full of little clots (TMI!). I rushed to the City's walk in centre (a drop in GP clinic). The nurse asked me to do a urine sample and, on reentering the room, asked "are you sure you're pregnant?". I showed her my positive tests. She told me that her test came back negative and insisted that it wasn't possible for the hormone levels to drop that quickly so either her test was wrong or my positive was false. Now I know that's not true - lots of women have CPs and their tests come back negative days later because the hormone hasn't had time to build up therefore drops quickly. I decided to book in with my GP that evening.

Well, my GP had a totally different take. He told me to go to A+E (the ER!). He said they would do an ultrasound and listen for a heartbeat and if there was a heartbeat they would try to save the baby. I told him that there would not be a heartbeat as I was only 4wks1d. He just kept repeating that he was so sorry and that I should go to to hospital! I didn't of course - what a waste of everyone's time that would be!

On arriving home, I took a digital and there is was: Not Pregnant. I'd had a CP, no doubt about it.

But now I'm confused! I've had no blood tests, nobody's spoken to me about what will happen next.... how do I know everything's ok, you know, that there's nothing left in there?? How do I know what to expect next??

- The bleeding was medium for one day then was lighter on the Thursday, very light on the Friday, then stopped. 3 days! There was no cramping at all. It was mostly clots. It was totally different to AF.

- 4 days later, my temp is still up. Right up there, where it was post O.

What is my body playing at?? Surely if my temp is up my progesterone is still up? Will I get another AF in a few days when it drops?

And my main question - do I need to be worried that there could be something left in there???

Thanks.
