@Freckles: I worked part time during my mat leave which was also 1 yr long. I worked 16h a week and was in the office one day a week. That left me with 8h that I had to work for from home. It was really easy for me doing that while LO took naps.

@Freckles: I hear you. I would totally use a mother's helper if we didn't already have a part time nanny during my work hours. I'm hoping she will come 3 days/week for 3-4 hours once #2 is here.

@Freckles: Relatively easy, yes. We used the equivalent of a care.com site and interviewed two candidates in our home. The sitter we chose was the second candidate.

@looch: Was she easy to find?

@lamariniere: Haha, i was thinking like 2 hours a day! :silly: I definitely know it'll depend on the baby. I'm hoping to take advantage of the early pre-mobile infancy months where all they do is eat and sleep.

I had one, from when my son was about 4 months to about 18 months. I was a SAHM and she came 4 hours a week, on a set day.

@Freckles: depending on your baby, maybe 3-4 hours? My daughter is pretty easy going and doesn't need to be attached to my boob all day. I'm having the sitter come just 3 hours per day for the first 2-3 weeks so everyone can get used to one another and then move up to 4 hours when she is ready (and then start doing maybe 6 hours per day in a few months). However, my son was much more difficult and, even though I really needed help, I don't know how effective it would have been when he was 2 months since I needed to feed him aaaalll day long.

@bushelandapeck: Having a nanny would be nice but not something i can justify for our household! I figure i may be able to have more options with a helper since it's so difficult to find non live-in nannies in our area.

I'm a WAH mom and just started looking in this! I need a couple of mornings freed up so I can get stuff done.

@lamariniere: How many hours do you think is acceptable to work at the 2 month mark (without going crazy)? I know tons of moms go back to work at 6 weeks, but i obviously want to find a balanced situation where i'm not stressed out (otherwise DH will kibosh the whole proposal). It'll only be for a few months until the project is complete.

I did not have one with DS but I plan to continue to use our current nanny while I'm on maternity leave with #2 to help with things around the house, and to give me a break here and there. I say go for it!

I would say DEFINITELY get help if you are planning on WAH with a baby. I'm about to start WAH and have hired a morning sitter for my 4 month old (DS is in daycare). I WAH with no help when DS was a baby/toddler and it was very challenging. I felt like I could never get anything done and worked a lot of nights and weekends.

Whether you are a SAHM/WAHM/WOHM/mat leave...do you have someone who comes in to help out for a couple of hours a day, one to several times a week? How did you find this person, and how did you find the experience?

There are a lot of uncertainties with my next (Canadian) mat leave, but i am contemplating working several hours a week to help get through a major project. DD would still be in daycare, but i want to make sure that i can actually commit to doing some work and thought having a helper would be nice.

Any thoughts? Experiences to share? Advice?
