I normally don't scrutinze our medical bills {mostly because we have an HMO so I don't have to pay them}.

However, with my LO I kept getting a bill that my insurance wouldn't cover. When I called to inquire about it they told me that they wouldn't pay for the circumcision that was performed on ME. I had her repeat that to me a few times before she finally realized the mistake.

@Foodnerd81: totally. I keep thinking ugh I shouldn't have called ambulance but there is no way of knowing if she would have arrived healthy, safe and sound!

@matador84: Unbelievable! I mean, at the end of the day, it is what it is and you had a very healthy baby at the end of what could have been very scary, so there is no point getting upset... but still. BS.

@Bao: ridiculous! I know I got billed for ibuprofen when I was in hospital and I should have brought my own!!! They charged 45$ for oxygen for dd in ambulance. Really? 45$! And it was 79$ for them to clamp the cord and cut it. Insane!

@Foodnerd81: you won't believe this...I got two separate bills for ambulance-one for me that is 900 and one for dd that is 1100! Such bs!!!!!! I called insurance today though because a claim hadn't been filed on dd because the ambulance company said it was a normal delivery. BS!!!!! So anyway I think insurance will pay a little on her, but it will still probably be a 2000 ambulance ride when we were 3 miles from hospital.

Uh, I did not read them. Too much medical nonsense and too many abbreviations!

I feel like I should have though... there was a lot going on for awhile, I have no idea what I was charged for

@matador84: I think the amount you get charged for things is insanity. When A went in for her hip surgery but then didn't end up needing surgery after she was put under, it was still $5,800 for "surgical procedures" the eff?! I'm glad my insurance covered it because that's ridiculous. Same for a bottle of Motrin they sent home with us, it was like $68...there must be gold at the bottom, still waiting to see.

I looked pretty carefully at it-- mostly I wanted to make sure I didn't have to pay more than my OOP max. Figures, my expenses came within $15 of my max.

@matador84: Seems like all the hard stuff was already taken care of before any medical personnel showed up! Your friend should be the one billing for delivery!

@Bao: same. The companies will never bill you back since you get so many separate bills-they don't care about what your deductible is and if you've met, only if your insurance catches it when the bill them.

I got overcharged at LOs ER visit! We took him in for croup and they prescribed a steroid, but I declined it since he was breathing okay and didn't need it. But we still got billed for it! It was $20 so I didn't contest it.

I never used to but I started paying attention to all medical bills more closely because I was paying things I shouldn't have been! I wonder where some of that money went because I never got a check back.

I didn't with my first pregnancy because I was overwhelmed from an ER visit and then new insurance and all the bills from when I had DS.

With dd, I paid way more attention. I'm pretty sure I overpaid on DS-past my oop max. This time I've been so vigilant-the ambulance service screwed up and overbilled without insurance and I was getting bills from hospital but already paid a chunk at my obs so I got a check back.

It Pays to pay attention! Ha!
