I have my moments where I worry about this. The major concern lately is starting to say words. I am eagerly awaiting a first word over here { please be MAMA! } and start to stress when I hear other little ones saying things months earlier then my lo.

I also sometimes worry that if she doesn't do certain things early then I will miss them when I have to go back to work...

Never an easy task this Motherhood deal!

I've been stressing about sitting, she just doesn't have the strength and if we would let go she would just topple over (6 1/2 months.) I know I'm not suppose to compare her to other kids, but I noticed most her age are sitting unassisted. The doctor told me not to worry and that she's excelling in every area at this time, but I still get worried!

Well the nanny just told me that H rolled back to belly about 4 times yesterday. Glad that she's doing it, but I feel like crap that I wasnt the one to see it. DH and I saw her roll tummy to back a few times, but I think that was just a fluke.

So I guess that's the other stressful part of milestones...When they hit them and someone else gets to experience it with them first, ie caregivers:(

I stressed up about crawling. I feel like every LO has a different time table, and as long as you are doing tummy time that is what is important. Have you tried doing tummy time in "airplane" style, with your LO on your legs, that way she can see you?

My son hated tummy time as well until he could roll well (right around 4 months). He loved "standing" and sitting up (with help) instead.

I think about milestones, but I don't really stress over them. However, I always stressed about his eating habits and size until probably 8 months when he started table foods. He never loved eating bottles and I always felt like I was forcing liquid on him. But now, at almost 11 months, he eats so much that I don't think about his size or food intake. He couldn't possibly eat more than he does and drinks plenty as well. Anyways, that's my story!

@jmarionsmith: I definitely agree. I'm not stressed about it, I'm just eager for it (I'm sure I'll be eating my words when he's chattering non-stop, lol!). Like @sera_87: E really has hit the physical stuff out of the park, so we just assume he's concentrating more on those.

I used to stress way more when he was younger but I've learned to let it go as he continues to grow and develop. The fact is, at 13 months, he's not a walker or a talker...but he's also not behind in anyway (we've done some screening) and he's an amazing baby. I really try to focus on what he IS doing and the smaller gains he's making to get to the big milestones.

I think it's also hard when you're involved in a parenting forum where people talk about their babies' milestones!! When someone brings something up saying their baby was 'super late' or 'super early,' it makes you think twice about what your LO is and isn't doing.

I'm very interested in baby milestones, but I never stressed about it. My girl was a very early talker and a very late walker. 16 months, late. But she was also making three word sentences at that point, so it was clear she just had a brain that cared more about speech for whatever reason. I knew that she had until 17 months before it was an issue, and she kept making progress towards walking. So I never worried.

@jmarionsmith: oh my goodness she squeals so much! But no babbling. Sometimes it sounds like she's saying something with the rhythm of the squeals but no consonant sounds.

@yerpie110: my LO is in the same boat with head size. That's why I think belly to back was easier than back to belly.

My baby is the same age as @rawrsaur and @princessbaby with an 83% head. He still hates tummy time, barely lifts his head, but its getting a little better day by day. I was stressing for a while, but now not so much. I can see a little improvement plus he sits up assisted, and jumps etc.

I admit I do this a bit, which is ridiculous since LO is only 4.5 months! At first I was freaking out since she didn't roll at 4 months but then I read something that said they are still considered on track as long as they do it by 6 months. She also hates tummy time and I'm trying to make her do more of it, even though she hates it. I'm sure she and Harper will do just fine :)

@iheartleopardprint: i agree with the boys seem to talk later! DS is 11 months and babbles, but says no words, which i was worried about a little bit. but then i thought about it both of my nephews didn't talk until they were over 1 and now both don't shut up! and my niece is a chatterbox and has been for the longest time!

DS just seems to be more interested in the physical milestones, just like his older boy cousins :o)

yep I always worry even though he is typically a little ahead in the milestones. I just can't help it! I was obsessed with the babbling because I didn't think he was doing it enough. The pedi said that a ot of boys at his age just do a lot of screaming (check!) and now two weeks later he is babbling up a storm - go figure.

@katsupgirl: @sera_87: @FutureMrsMcK: i'm obsessed with my LOs babbling (or lack of!) he is vocal but doesn't do dadadad or bababa just squeals and and makes throaty noises. i honestly think babies can't work on all their skills at once. so if they're working on physical milestones their babbling might come later.

C didnt roll over for the first time until she was 5.5-6 months old. I FREAKED out that she was delayed, etc. Our ped told me that a lot of the time when a baby is advanced in one area (she was in speech/communication) that they can lag in another. C hated tummy time with a passion, so I'm sure this was why. I didn't push it because I didn't see the point in forcing her only to have to listen to a tantrum.

In the end, she was sitting unassisted by 5 months, rolling by 6, crawling by 8 and pulling up and cruising by 9. She's 12 months and not walking yet, but I'm not worried this time. She's still well within the normal range.

I try not to stress unless the dr says to! My LO rolled belly to back at 2.5 months I think because she HATED tummy time. She didn't roll the other way til 5.5 months! Now I'm glad she still isn't crawling...less work for me!

Mums of boys, don't stress about the late talking/ babbling. dd babbles more than DS ever did, at 7 months she says dadda, Mumma and bubba. DS didn't speak well ant truly until after 1, and now at 2.7 years he is an amazing talker! I just think its a boy thing sometimes :-)

With my first I did, I googled EVERYTHING!

Now with my second I know that all babies have their own time frame. DD loved tummy time, was rolling both ways everywhere around the housevby 4 months, sitting unassisted by 5.5mnths and crawled at 6.5 months. At 7 months she can stand assisted and hold her body weight, copy sounds, etc.

But this timeline is so different to what my son's was so I just go with the flow! Don't compare, and just keep at it! Tummy time is so important, so try little bits often.

DD was slightly more delayed than average on the physical milestones, but I never worried too much because I could tell from an early age that she had a very cautious and careful personality. She was always very sharp mentally though. I think if it were the opposite way around - and she wasn't as quick-minded as she is, I would've worried.

@yerpie110: not all your LO's milestones might be delayed because of a big head - my LO is 92% for head circumstance, but she sat up unassisted right on the 5 month mark (at 4.5 month for a few seconds and wobbly, but was totally good to go at 5 months). So, they don't let those big heads slow them down :)

@PrincessBaby: I wasn't talking about that, but that is a good thing to try. I would prop her up on her own arms, like elbows under chest and hands under chin instead of just laying her chest flat on the ground. She has a big head (77%), so I was trying to help her out a bit ;) She has the hang of it on her own now, though, and enjoys it (for about 10 min).

@yerpie110: my LO is in the 99th percentile for head circumference and also has a long torso, and I do think it made it a little harder to do certain things like crawling and (especially) sitting unassisted, because it was harder for him to balance - but he eventually figured it all out and is crawling, sitting, and pulling up like a pro at a little over 8 months.
