I was named Amanda when I was born, but called Mandy from the first day home. The only people who called me Amanda was like Dr's, police, anything legal yada yada yada. I always felt like this Amanda was some totally different person. It's not even like mom called me both names often. I ran into issues when I got older applying for loans because I refused to use my Birth name. Yes I know I can legally change it now, but its just such a hassle. So I was pretty adamant that our children where going to be called whatever their actual name was. We we're hounded by family to tell them, but we refused until she was born. Once she was here my MIL and FIL were told only for us to get a not so pleasant look from them. I know people can make fun of just about anything but I didn't want to choose an obvious target. My first and last names got made fun of a LOT growing up (not that my parents could have predicted that, it was pop culture's fault) so maybe that's why. Like...I really love the name Daria, but know that little boys would call her diarrhea. Or I love the name Annaleigh, but anything with "anal" in it is out.
