We gave ours a 20% increase and after awhile sent our older to preschool so her load lightened a little.

Yep. That's a huge lot of extra responsibility they're taking on, as well as an extra bum to clean, nose to wipe, nap schedule to deal with, etc etc.

Not sure about nannies but our babysitter (who usually just watches my LO alone) charges $1.50 more to watch two kids.

Yes, there is a pay increase. I started as a nanny for a family of three, and when she had a fourth, my pay increased by 15% (I was salary). When I was hourly with a different family and added another child, my pay increased $1.20/hour.

Yes, it's not like doubling or anything, but there is an increase. I used to nanny and watched a 2 year old and then her little sister was born. Mom immediately offered the additional money because it is definitely more work.

I don't know what the more professional answer would be, but when I started my 3/4 time nanny position the mom told me they were planning on having a 3rd kid "some day." When that day came they gave me a pay increase. It wasn't as much as I was making per kid before, but it was nice to get the acknowledgment that there's more work to be done. I still make the higher amount even though the oldest child is in school the time I'm there.

Like I said I don't have a super professional nanny job and I've become friends with the people I nanny for. I'm sure a professional nanny would require notice of a new kid and probably inform the family of their pay rates if another kid was added.

I'm just curious... do nannies get paid more for additional kids? For those who have a nanny and added to the family, did you ask the caregiver if they could handle more? I don't have or need a nanny but was thinking about this today and wondering. :)
