When I was in my early 20's I was getting frequent UTI's and was able to just call my provider and he could prescribe antibiotics over the phone. I was never able to just flush it out.

I did have a UTI with no symptoms and it turned into a raging kidney infection. Ended up in the ER then had to go back to the hospital the following day for another round of IV antibiotics once my blood work came back.

Yes I do because I had one turn into a kidney infection once and it was AWFUL. I never want to deal with that again. My doctor actually said if it's a true bacterial infection no amount of flushing your system out and over the counter treatment will clear it up. If you have something that goes clear up it was likely just irritation or a little inflammation. I don't how true that is because but I never mess around with a UTI.

The one time I didn't go, I wound up with a raging (PAINFUL) kidney infection. As @looch: mentioned, it could be urinary retention, which can lead to urine getting backed up into your kidneys and a kidney infection. Not good.

I have never been able to successfully treat a UTI with water and cranberry juice (or pills), so I always went to the doctor.

Turns out, though, that I wasn't emptying my bladder all the way, that is what was causing my frequent, recurring UTIs. So now, I am careful to do that and I have been UTI free for many, many years (knock on wood).

I have always had to go to the doctor. It's happened maybe half a dozen times and I always try to flush it out with tons of water and cranberry juice, but ultimately I've always need antibiotics. These make me miserable!

D-Mannose is the best thing I've found. In the UK, pharmacies give you this instead of antibiotics and it works so well for me. I always recommend the one by Sweet Cures since it's the one that worked for me in the UK and is a really good product (and I'm willing to pay the international shipping for this product), but you can find other companies on Amazon.

@Mrs. Sunshine: untreated UTIs can easily turn into a bladder infection, so if definitely go own. I used to get them ALL THE TIME so I understand how annoying it is.

Lots of water, cranberry tablets and the pharmacy has OTC UTI relief pills (turns your urine orange). Oh, if you get them often, you could ask your Dr for a refilled prescription of it.

I got a refilled prescription but luckily haven't had one in a long time.

Oh, after sex, definitely definitely pee afterwards.

I think I've only gone to the doctor for my first one! I don't really get them, but if I feel like I possibly might have one coming, I chuck water and take cranberry pills and they usually go away.

@Bao: I wasn't in pain until yesterday and the pain is definitely less today...I may try and see how I feel in the morning since it's already better. I've got water cranberry juice and cranberry, pain relief, antibacterial tabs too so I'm hopefully good. I was just double checking because I never really got them prior to this. Thank you!

@Mrs. Sunshine: I usually catch them right away, tons of water and these cranberry tablets really help. If you are in a decent amount of pain though I would maybe call?

This is my second UTI since April. Last time it was post D&C and I was heading to the doctor for a follow up anyway. This time i got a yeast infection with my period and then what feels like a UTI. I'm taking Cystex and it's helped but it's only been a day and I'm dying until about noon when the pain and urgency eases up a bit. I am treating the yeast infection as well, just wondering if I need to schedule an appointment or not. If not, what are your best UTI kicking tips?
