We CD'ed full time when I was on maternity leave with prefolds and covers. I liked it and would do it again. We never had problems with leaks, and never had to deal with rinsing poop since it all just went in the wash.
LO's daycare, which he started at 12 weeks, wouldn't do CDs, so we tried CDing just at night and on the weekends, using pockets and AIOs since he'd outgrown the prefolds and covers, and we gave it up after about a month or two. Once we tried to get him to sleep longer at night and stopped changing him every time he woke up, we were only using two diapers a day, but if we left them for more than two days, they would REEK, so we were constantly doing tiny loads of laundry. Plus, I think we probably had issues with the combination of water, detergent, cleaning routine, etc. like Pelikila described, and we tried stripping a couple times, but honestly we didn't have the time or the energy to spend any more of either trying to figure out why our diapers were still stinky.
One of the reasons I'd wanted to do cloth was because I was worried that LO would inherit DH's sensitive skin, but he's been in disposables for a year now and has never had more than some temporary and minor redness that clears up with an application of some butt paste.

@Coco Bee: I agree. The only way I could handle the poo is by using the liners. We use a sposie at night and if we feel like it at home. I am goingto keep up with it because it's cheaper at daycare and they change every two hours there.

We cloth diaper full time. But I like it sooooo much more now that she's older and eating real food and cows milk. Her poo is solid so it makes changing poopy diapers a piece of cake! Just an fyi if you decide to stick it out.

Do you have hard water, by any chance? We do, and it makes rinsing the soap out super difficult, so we use a tiny bit of soap and do two rinses. I don't feel like I am doing the environment any favors, but oh well.

I use the toilet paper like liners at the times he usually poops (and waste some, but they are only a few cents each.

I stopped getting pee leaks by adjusting how tightly I wrapped them (less tight, actually!)

Still not really a fan as much as I thought I would be but it is much more tolerable.

@Coco Bee:
We use sposies at night and when we are out for a day. The girls just rash like crazy if they are wet for any length of time. I'm still saving money because it's only a diaper or two a day, and I'm selling the diapers when I'm done (already have a buyer lined up for my size ones!)

Do you use flushable liners? I couldn't handle the poop without them, Toddler Girl had poop like peanut butter.

Have you tried Applecheeks? Not to try and make you spend more money, but I am full of love for them. We can use them overnight without leaking if they use the 3 ply liner, but they still rash so we don't.

@Coco Bee: We ran into repelling issues when we first switched from fitteds to pockets. We were using RnG classic rock and it worked great on our fitteds but caused terrible repelling issues on our pockets. We had not only prepped our diapers with RnG but every time we washed them it caused more build up on the diapers and inserts no matter how much we rinsed. We ended up stripping diapers every single weekend for a few months before we figured out it was our detergent and water that was causing the problem. We then tried a variety of soaps (RnG soft rock, charlie's soap, allen's naturally, soap nuts, and tiny bubbles) and amounts of the different soaps to find the right combination for us. We would hand strip the diapers and then try a new soap for a few weeks and evaluated how it did. Some still caused repelling, some just didn't clean well, and some were okay but not great. We found success with Tiny Bubbles and adding in oxiclean free but I know other people had success with other soaps and such. Long story short, our diapers were brand new too but if you aren't rinsing the soap completely out (by no fault of your own I promise since it didn't matter how much we rinsed or at what temperature) you have the potential to have the soap building up causing them to repel.

@MamaCate: It's my husband. He really doesn't want me to give up. But he works days and nights all week long, so it's just me.
I definitely love how cute they look, but it's not worth the hassle. Sadly we kept trying new brands because I sooo desperately wanted it to work out. But every brand leaks on him. We also don't have a clothesline, we rent so we hang the diapers in the bathroom.

@pelikila: It is frustrating trying soo many different brands and nothing works. I've spent so much money I feel like I haven't saved anything.

We're probably going to end up using disposables overnight b/c the only solution I've found so far to keep DD from leaking at night is to use disposable night diapers. If your son only poops once or twice per day, can you predict when it will happen, and just put him in a disposable then? I usually have a pretty good idea when my daughter is going to poop, so I might try that strategy once we start w/ solid foods. Right now we're doing disposables full time b/c we just moved, and our cloth stash hasn't arrived in the moving truck yet. I just had a massive blowout from a sposie, which never would have happened with cloth... so that makes me want to stick with cloth even though it's a pain sometimes.

Likely with your stash being so new you could sell them for a good portion of what you invested. If it really isn't for you there is nothing wrong with that. We CD full time and like it but if you don't I'd say do what works for you. Some people have to work harder at finding the right CD for them and working all the kinks out can be very time consuming and frustrating. I've been there but we were able to work all of our kinks out so we kept at it. We were traveling the other weekend and I thought we'd give sposies a try during that weekend to make it easier. It ended up being way more of a hassle than traveling with our cloth would have been but that is just our experience.

@Coco Bee: if you really dont like the wholething, maybe it is worth looking into selling you CD stash and recouping your investment, and then put the money toward honest co or whatever works for you.

Our CDs very rarely leak, and i like the fit and the colors and how cute her fluffy butt looks! I almost never have her in pants because it is just too hot, but i can see wherethat would be a pain. We only do laundry twice a week, which helps, and i kind of enjoy hanging everything on the line.

I have been cloth diapering part time just recently, to see if it is something that interests me. Since I'm a SAHM with my second baby, I figured I should just give it a try. Maybe if your LO is on a poop schedule, put a disposable on for that, and at other times CD? I haven't put my LO in CD at night yet, for the fear of leaking (and we only have six CDs at the moment)

@ChelseaRose: @looch: That's a good idea. I do have a roll of liners. I can try that out for awhile and see how it goes.

@MamaCate: Everything! I don't like the laundry, I hate that no matter what brand/diaper we use they leak (I've tried 6 different brands), they especially leak overnight - the ONLY way they don't leak during the day is if it's double stuffed, which makes it so he has to go up a size in pants and then they're too long/big in the legs and his butt is the size of his head- it's just impractical. I don't like the thought of having to dump/rinse the poop now that he's on solids, I don't like that his diaper pail smells now, and I don't like that his clothes don't fit properly because he has a fluff butt.

What I DO like is saving money and knowing there are no chemicals on my boys little bits.

But he just pooped in cloth so the sposie pullup was closer and he's in that right now for a nap. We use sposies at night. So, I thin you should do what works for you.

We do a mix too, mostly disposables when we're out and about and overnight.

I used diaper liners when we started on solids, just until I got acclimated to the poop. I found it a lot easier to deal with because it is more solid than liquid diet poop.

We do mostly CD. I do use sposies sometimes on the go and DH uses them when I'm not home. I feel like sposies are stupid expensive, so every CD I use saves money even if it's only part-time.

Honestly, I'm being just as stubborn about CDing as some women are about BFing. BF and CD were the two things I wanted to do. I didn't get to BF so I am sure as hell going to CD.

I will admit it, after nearly 6 months of cloth diapering, I have grown to greatly dislike it. Especially now that he is starting solids and we'll have to use the diaper sprayer. I'm really not thrilled about that. I convinced myself before I had my son that CD'ing would be no different than sposies, lol SO not the case. It takes a special kind of person to be able to do it... and I'm afraid that person is not me. I'm not 100% happy with being a SAHM as it is, and cloth diapering makes it even harder. To be a happy mama, I would like to switch.

We made a big investment into CD'ing though, and honestly my husband likes CD'ing a lot.

We are talking about what we want to do moving forward and I would love to make the switch to The Honest Company, but my husband wants to CD on the weekends when he's home.

If you CD pt do you feel it's still cost-effective?

I'm wondering if it's worth it, or if I should suck it up and just get through it.
