yes, LO hated her carseat until she was about 3-4 months. i was so afraid to take her anywhere because the anxiety of hearing her cry from destination 1 to destination 2 was too much! but then all of a sudden one day, she stopped crying in the carseat. i think she just got used to it. we had the graco snugride 35.

Yes! She's four months now and finally hating it less. One thing that helped us has been sleep training. She knows how to self-soothe in her crib and she's been able to transition that to her car seat too. And, I also make sure to bring her lovey along with us and that seems to help too.

My LO didn't like his car seat and would fight every time we put him in. Around 10 months we switched him to a convertible car seat, and he is so much better. I think the infant car seat was reclined back too much for him to enjoy the ride.

My niece did. She would cry the whole entire car trip every single time till she was a toddler. And in NYC traffic that meant anywhere from a bare minimum of 45minutes +

My 9-month old used to really hate the car seat. He would cry a loud scream-y cry every time. I avoided driving places unless absolutely necessary. When he was really young, it helped to play the white noise of radio static (tune it between stations and turn up the volume). Moving him into a convertible seat helped a little. Reaching my arm back to pat him on the head helped.
But the point is, it got a lot better. Now he will play with a toy for a while before starting to fuss, or look out the window. I think he understands now that he is not alone even if he can't see me. So don't despair!
Is there anyone you could carpool with so that you could sit in the back with the baby?

We have the same problem at 14 weeks. It is miserable!!! The ped said not to pull over and comfort because she will learn that if she keeps crying that will happen, but sometimes it is so hard! I hope she outgrows this soon!

A screaming baby in the car sucks!! My LO hated the carseat when we had the infant positioners in it. Now he tolerates the carseat.

When we were on vacation he had a hard time with the carseat we were using but he is fine with the one we use at home, so switching seats might be a good option.

Hearing about other people's experiences with their babies is really tough (although comforting when they are similar to yours!) and it is hard not to compare LOs without wanting to sock someone for having it easier than you. I can totally relate!!!

@Andrea: He will typically only fall asleep in the car if it is absolutely pouring rain outside. I've even tried playing rain sounds from my ipod through my car speakers. It works every once and a while, but I think he knows it's a lie. :) And we have to drive 20 minutes to and from work every day, so it's not like I can avoid it.

@bienlivingdesign: I've read a few posts in other places where people tried this and it worked. I might have to start bumming different car seats from friends to try out.

@Honeybee: We don't have a car seat/stroller combo, so can't try that. :(

I'm glad I'm not totally alone in this. Everyone keeps saying how much their baby looooves the car seat and I want to punch them.

DS LOVES his car seat...so long as its not in the car! he slept in his carseat for the first month of his life and its still one of the few things that will calm him down(swinging him in his car seat) but once you clip it into that base and start going he's a terror!!!

I don't know if it would help, but do you have the option of clicking his carseat into the stroller and going for a walk? Maybe get him used to being in the carseat without actually being in the car or being strapped in?

I'll also say that DS hated the carseat for the first few weeks; I had to swaddle him before I put him in his carseat until he was about 6 weeks old.

My friend had the same problem with her baby. They ended up switching carseats & that solved the problem! Just something to consider :)

Oh I remember that! I'm so sorry you're having to go through it. My LO HATED the car rides/carseat until she was about 4 months old. We did the same things you listed but nothing worked. And then all of a sudden, she was fine with it. Now, she'll talk to herself or even fall asleep, but it was torture until she made that switch. I feel your pain, but hopefully your LO will turn around soon.

Yah, I would have to sit next to the carseat and fake-sneeze and hiccup while Bee drove, which would get Charlie to laugh. It eventually ended though, thank goodness!

My 12 week old absolutely hates being in his carseat. He becomes hysterical almost every car ride, and it's getting old fast. I dread taking him places. I've removed his infant positioners to give him more room, adjusted his straps, give him a variety of things to look at and play with, and he just chooses to cry himself into a big sweaty mess. We sing, I rock his carseat, but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone else's hate their carseat? I am at a loss of what to try at this point, other than not going anywhere. Ever.
