This is totally normal! I really tried to push my LO to extend feedings to every 2 hours (especially once she gained her birth weight back). However, especially in the evenings, she would want to nurse every 1.5 hours.

You are still really early on for their to be any type of set schedule. I don't mean to scare you but during the first 2-3 months, every other week is essentially a growth spurt. My guy is 4 months and there are days where he eats every 45 minutes. He is teething now too so sucking hurts him so sometimes he'll just snack all day long.

It's really crucial to feed on demand to build your supply. So many women who didn't end up losing their supply at 7 or 8 months.

That being said, my daughter nursed 6-8 hours a day for 2 months. I wish I were joking. It was hell. I was able to leave the house, I just got very good at finding places to nurse and being comfortable doing it. It has gotten better, certainly, though she's still a very slow and frequent nurser at 12 months. Breast is best! But some times very, very difficult.

I feed on demand and still have some days where we only go 2 hours between feedings... and LO is 5 months old. But in the beginning we definitely parked it on the couch because she ate every 1.5 hours. She's a very quick and efficient nurser, so it wasn't too terrible, but there were days that I just wanted to take a normal shower without having to rush to finish before she got hungry again. Your LO will start figuring things out and spreading out the feedings! I remember things getting much better after the 6 week growth spurt! Good luck!

Thanks ladies. So many places say that they're going to nurse every 2-3 hours. Were you able to leave the house? This is one of my fears right now, I don't think we're at the point where I could nurse in public. I'd be the frantic lady running out of the grocery store.
@runsyellowlites: I hope this is a growth spurt. If not, I'm scared of what the growth spurt will be like!

At six months I still feed on demand and have some days where DD wants to eat anywhere from 1.5-3 hours. (I'm a wahm so I have the leeway).

As a newborn though it's completely normal to want to nurse that often b/c not only is bebe nursing for nutrition but also closeness & to help lay down prolactin receptors to help your supply. Especially around 7-10 days, 2-3 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 9 weeks which are considered average growth spurt ages.... really though anytime in the first 3 months that bebe nurses more often could be a growth spurt.

Best advice I got was pick a new series on Netflix and get comfy for the first few weeks. GL you're doing great!

In the beginning yes my baby wanted to feed randomly, somtimes every hour and for long periods. It was confusing at first I didnt understand why she wasnt full but I was told new borns arent very efficient at getting enough milk out and usually get sleepy while nursing and stop eating, then feel hungry again soon after. It gets much better though

I fed on demand...which was way often. One day I sat with him on the couch on my boob for nearly two hours! He's starting to get on a routine where we're feeding about every 3 now. Totally normal as a newborn to feed constantly!

DS has been wanting to nurse every hour and a half or so for the last week (6 days old-13 days old). It's exhausting! Between diaper changes, reswaddling, feeding, and burping/holding him upright for 20 minutes, he's almost always attached to me. He usually sleeps for a 3 hour stretch in the evening, and maybe one stretch more than 2 hours in the middle of the night. When he eats, he usually goes about ten minutes before he falls asleep. He's still having some problems latching, so the first several minutes are spent thrashing and crying. :(
