Ugh! Don't let people judge you for this. My child is a late sleeper too and frankly I think it's fine so long as he sleeps as many hours as possible and isn't in school. The bougeous love to get all worked up about little things like this. Do what works for your family.

@jhd: Lol for days at that. My daughter is like her father - her ideal sleep schedule would be 11pm - 8am, with a late afternoon nap. I don't really care for that super late bedtime, but it's not terrible. She's three, and she still REALLY needs her nap, but basically, if she naps at all, she's up until 11. And if she doesn't, she's still up until 10. We're not CIO people, so we mostly just roll with it.

My husband's ideal sleep schedule would be able 3am - 11am, so it's clear where she gets it. I don't really mind it. Now that I'm pregnant, it can be hard for me to be passed out at 8:30 when they're still having fun. But besides that, I like it.

My 12 month old goes down between 8 and 8:30, but until recently, it was around 9. It got a little earlier because I changed jobs, so we have to be up a bit earlier. I Looooved it when he slept from 9:30-8:30! I just had a lot of mom guilt over it which was so dumb looking back.

@yerpie110: same here. I feel like I worried way too much about his bedtime when it works for us!

@Mrs. Sunshine: Right?!

My kids both seem to like to be down by 7pm. The freetime at home at night is nice BUT it gets so old to not be able to go out anywhere after around 5:30 at night. I'm stuck at home with them while they sleep unless I want to deal with a breakdown and lots of crying.

So I thought about this thread tonight when I was at church and an older man commented that it was awful late for me to have my baby out. It was 6pm! Glad to know I am not the only mama who has a baby that doesn't go to bed early!

Oh yeah, my other mom friends don't understand. And I've never seen this 'me' time after the LO goes to sleep that people talk about. But J is super happy. :)

Yup, her natural bedtime is around 930/10pm. I wasted so much time fretting about it, questioning what I was doing wrong, but recently started embracing/accepting that it is what it is and enjoying the extra time together.

Yes! LO went to bed around 9 last night and it was the earliest he has ever gone down in his whole little life! He is 7 months. DH and I don't mind. We are both night owls too and he gets plenty of sleep.

Yep. DH and I are both night owls and so is LO. She usually goes to bed between 9-10pm and sleeps for 12 hours. Works for us!

I love seeing kids out late. When I was living in Mexico that was one of my favorite things- seeing children out at all hours enjoying life with the rest of us. My kid is a night owl too!

Yeah, our LO goes to bed between 9 and 10. She wakes up at 8. It works out now because I don't have to be to work until 10 a.m. but if my schedule changes she'll have to go back to at least 8 to 7. It's nice because we get more time together in the evenings.

Ditto. K goes to sleep usually between 9:30-10:30 (ended up later since the time change). She usually wakes up between 8-9am. I miss the days when she'd sleep till 10! It works this way for us because DH works so late. He usually rushes to get home just to play a little bit before bath and bedtime.

Yes, but I'm not sure if it is too young to really tell.

DH works second shift and I'm working on a thesis from home, so we keep strange hours anyway (we sleep ~ 2-10am). LO has slotted in perfectly (she sleeps from around 12-10, with one to two feeds). I have tried to put her on an earlier schedule and it hasn't worked - she'll simply wake at 11 and stay awake for 1-2 hours.

At this stage we aren't worried, because she gets 14-16 hours a day/night, her long sleep is at night and we have a loose routine. We will be going home to visit NZ in a few months and so will be having to deal with jetlag anyway, so figure we will try to get her on a more traditional schedule then for when she starts daycare. DH and I are both nightowls though, so we suspect she will always be.

My kid (17 months) is a total night owl. He usually goes to bed between 9-10pm. It is impossible to get him down before 8:30. We don't mind because it means he usually sleeps in until 8-10am.

We love that we are able to stay out later, go to late dinners, etc but we get a ton of judgment from other parents. I don't see the big deal. He gets plenty of sleep and it works for our family.

Are there others out there with little night owls?
