When E doesn't eat dinner I try to feed him something I know he'll eat before he goes to bed. A cheese stick, yogurt, banana, crackers, a pouch... anything so that he doesn't wake up super early starving. I hope he doesn't associate getting these "snacks" with not eating dinner, but who knows, he might be on to me. At 2, he doesn't understand that he'll be hungry later if he doesn't eat dinner though.

Lil b has never really been a great nighttime eater. He normally has a few bites then is done. I figure he will eat if he is hungry- but I wont try to force him. I usually try to give him a yogurt for dinnertime because that is his favorite- sometimes he eats it- sometimes not.

@blackbird: What do you put in the smoothie? That's a good idea! Do you just put it in a straw cup?

@winniebee: His bottom ones have been in for months, but his top ones did just cut through a week or so ago. I am so glad teething is almost done!! But that may certainly be a part of it. It just sucks because he's now waking before 6 starving instead of 7-7:30.

Do you think maybe he's getting 2 yr molars (or does he have them)? My son HATES eating when teething.

Some nights he takes 2 bites of dinner and says all done. Some nights he eats 2 plates of food. We do let him eat on the run if he only has a few bites though....

Glad to hear I'm not alone.
@looch: I feel like our toddler food issues are never ending. :)

@blackbird: A smoothie is actually a good idea! I might try one tonight and see how it goes.

@Kimberlybee: I keep telling myself not to get upset by it because I don't want him to have weird food issues, but it's tough.

We're dealing with this too! LO eats pretty well at breakfast and at lunch, but could really take or leave dinner.

Same. It stresses me out, but at 22 mos I figure he'll tell me if he's hungry.

E hardly touched dinner last night. It's been going on for awhile. i think her teeth are bothering her. I figure if she's hungry, she will eat. But she isn't 100% right now. I did make her a smoothie to try to get her to take in some calories, though.

Sometimes. Sometimes she will take a bite or two and then walk away. Sometimes if she sits on our laps, she eats a few bites of our food. I figure if she doesn't eat, it's because she's not hungry. Simple as that. (but of course I still worry about it....)

Don't worry, it's a toddler thing. We were at our 1 year checkup yesterday for our MMR shots and before I even mentioned the lack of appetite, our pediatrician brought this issue up. He said refusing food is normal from ages 1-5 and just keep offering but don't force it. Forcing food will actually have a negative impact. I am not sure I will let it go until age 5 but for now from ages 1-2, I think I will be a little more lax about it.

Not to dinner, but my son has been refusing breakfast. So, all in all, 2 full meals a day.

Just wondering if this is a toddler thing.? My son hasn't eaten dinner in weeks. Like not a bite. He's not snacking at all between lunch and dinner, but he has been eating a huge lunch. I'm assuming he's getting in his calories then, and just doesn't get hungry afterwards. But it still stresses me out. Anyone else's toddler just saying no to dinner?
