DH did not (he also has a family middle name) because he wanted our kids to have their own identities. In the end, we did not use a family name, but DD's MN starts with the same letter as DH's first name. LO has the traditional family middle name for the first girl born and I would have it no other way. In my family, you're supposed to do grandparent names for the kids. Using a family name is not the only way to honor or remember other family members. There are so many names that I love, but that tend to get bumped by family names (that I also love). It also doesn't help that LOs name is exactly the same as DH's great-grandmother, so I feel like I've set a precedent. Does anyone else do this?</p> <p>(FWIW, our families do not care at all whether we use family names or not. Well, one person does but we tend to ignore that.) </p>
