So every doctor is different. He doesn't ever give me much information about the measurements unless I ask and last appt (31w) when I asked if I was measuring big or on target he just said "big" but that we'd get a more accurate estimate at the 36w ultrasound. So, it sounds like your OB is using his u/s machine to get a more accurate idea than can be gotten by measuring. My experience and what I've read online says there can be a lot of factors external to baby's growth that can throw-off the fundal measurements. But I imagine he he/she is looking via ultrasound they don't necessarily need the measuring tape.</p> <p>It was funny, my doc did make a joke about the measuring how it seems old fashioned - but it works... I did get weighed every visit, and the OB would measure DS's growth by looking at the ultrasound and measuring the bones. I just do it myself sometimes for fun. You need to measure from the top of your pubic bone (the lowest point you would want your swimsuit bottoms to start) to the top of your uterus (the point at the top of your bump where you fingers can go inwards again). I just had my 28 week apt ( I am 28+4 though) and measured at 29. I've been measuring a week ahead since they started measuring. It's from the pubic bone to the top of my uterus which is already almost to my breast line.
