It controls out lights and thermostat. She pretty much always understands me when Siri never can. I love that I can ask her the weather while I'm doing other stuff so I know how to dress for the day. It's also awesome that if my son is freaking out, I can say Alexa, play let it go and she will. That song is magical and always makes him stop crying. We've also asked for game start times and scores for college football and she will answer. We have some phillips hue bulbs that he synced it with, so he mostly uses it to turn on/off the lights in that one room. I sometimes use it to play music, but you have to be weirdly specific or it will pick a random Pandora station for you, and it will only play stuff either on Prime radio or pandora stations you've synced (it won't search for public pandora stations)</p> <p>@ms.line: I also find that asking it questions is cumbersome.. it repeats the question in the answer (Q: Alexa, what's the weather today? A: The weather today for the area XYZ, MD is currently X with a projected high of Z.). My brother tried asking it for NFL scores and it had no idea what he was talking about. I don't use the other functions often. It is pricey, and we bought it when it was a prime exclusive as well. Alexa starts talking a lot when she thinks people on TV are asking her questions. It takes longer for her to spit out the weather forecast than it does for me to check it on my iPhone. Accessing your music library through the cloud is the best feature, IMO, but the voiced volume controls are clunky and she misinterprets a lot of requests.
