We lived in an old home so our trim and doors are really old wood craftsman-style. I think the only tip is to not buy any more 'brown' furnishings. We have a dark brown couch and non-painted wood furnishings that we purchased before we moved into our current apartment and I think it is too much brown and wood. It's great. 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, open concept downstairs, nice location. We aren't in a great position to wait although we could. My parents have a place we could stay (indefinitely) but we'd have to get storage for all of our things and I think the lack of continuity would be hard for our kids. (18 months and 5 months.) Also, my parents guest house only has ONE bedroom which would be a logistical nightmare with our family haha. It was supposed to be the model home for a development in the area but then they slightly modified the design and had to sell it - that's why they swapped out the black appliances for the stainless ones, too, unfortunately. </p> <p>@alohaorchid: True, white probably wouldn't even suit the rest of the house. Personally, I'm a fan of white, but that trim looks so nice and it goes well with the cabinetry. White trim is such a pain to keep clean anyway.</p> <p>If the trim is all that's holding you back, I say go for it. Yuck. </p> <p>A few things, check the condition of the baseboards, are they worth painting? Or would you just rip them off and replace?
