My son's is 2+ years old and isn't pilling at all. However, there is a huge difference in quality/softness between the two, DS has the blue dot print and it is ok soft. DD has the grey star print and it is amazingly soft. Hers is also about 4" bigger than his, but they are both supposedly 47 inches.
