I suck at napping. I can't relax enough to fall asleep during the day unless I know I have a huge amount of time (like, pre-baby, if I was sick and had nothing to do at all on a Saturday and no reason to wake up, I could nap, but that's about it). Having a baby didn't really change that. I'm pretty much just exhausted all the time.

I was never a napper and I still don't nap. Not b/c I dont' want to, I'm just such a heavy sleeper I don't trust myself being home sleeping alone when the baby is sleeping. She could be screaming her head off and I'd sleep through it.

I think some people just can't nap. I have friends who don't nap after having babies as they can't fall asleep at random times in the middle of the day. I loooooooooooove to nap, though, so I can never understand this! :-)

I love sleep, any time of the day! It ranks in my top three things to do: eat, sleep, laugh.

I didn't nap regularly pre-baby, because I was working full time and kept regular hours, even on weekends. I would be in bed asleep by 10, awake by 6:30. That was enough sleep for me. Occasionally I would nap on the weekends, especially if it was rainy outside. Then I got pregnant, and I would take 4 hour naps on both days in the weekend! Talk about a switch.

When my son was born, I was having trouble falling back asleep at night during nightwakings, so I would have to nap, my eyes would just close during the day.

Hope this helps!

I'm not a huge napper because I generally find I feel worse after waking up from a nap than I do when I just push through. But, I'm pretty sure after having kids I'll try to nap when I can (I do NOT do well when I'm sleep deprived, so I'm guessing I'll be taking whatever sleep I can!)

I never napped before I got pregnant. I'm in my first trimester and at this point I am napping 2 times a day! It's really crazy, but there's really nothing I can do to stop it. Perhaps, this will ready me for napping once LO is here.

I nap whenever I can. My job depends on creativity, and I find that when I'm tired... I am pretty useless.

I was not a napper at all but now I can nap soooo easily. Today i was at my ob's office and fell asleep in the waiting room. The nurse had to wake me up! When I opened my eyes, the entire packed waiting room was laughing at me. Doh!

I'm sure you'll be able to nap once baby comes!

I love a good nap but now with LO here there are so many other things to do when she finally goes down I just don't nap. She gets up about twice in a twelve hour period so I am getting ok sleep at night ( many hours just not all consecutive). I guess I've adjusted to waking up at night

I am also not a napper (much to DH's chagrin...he likes nothing more than to spend a lazy day in bed, napping on and off). As for whether it will change once we have kids, who knows? My issue that is as soon as I actually lie down, no matter how tired I am, my mind starts thinking of a million things that I have to do. I have a hard time "turning off".

I don't really nap a whole lot, unless I'm super exhausted. Usually when my LO naps, I'm getting something to eat or cleaning up the apartment.

@L2Sweetpea - exactly! with school (which i know is totally different from a baby), I have long stretches where I am staying up really late and doing only school stuff until it's done. So when it's done, everyone is all "now you can relax/chill out/take a nap" and what do I do? dishes! laundry! cleaning! errands! There is too much to do to spend the time napping. I guess we'll see how I feel when the time comes though.

I am just like you. I am not a napper, and never have been. Everyone told me you have to nap when the baby naps...well I didn't. Typically when the baby is napping there is so much else to do (laundry, dishes, vacuum, shower, etc) that I don't bother napping during the time she sleeps. Plus I think if I were to nap it would totally screw up my schedule, and I'd struggle to fall asleep at night. Granted you are definitely not getting the kind of sleep you did before the baby, but I feel like my body naturally prepared for that. There was 1 day in my daughter's first week where I requested a nap because I was exhausted but that was the only time since she was born (she's 7 weeks now) that I have napped.

Interesting! I don't nap right now unless I am super tired or sick. However, I've heard the same thing about napping when your children nap. But then, how is one supposed to get other stuff done without any time w/o baby awake!? I am soo far from TTC but all these questions boggle my mind,.

...and did that change once you had a baby?

I am not a napper. I haven't taken a nap since I was 18 months (much to my mom's horror, hah). Even if I stay up all night, I can't nap during the day. I generally sleep 5-7 hours a night, wake up early (~5-6:30) and stay awake until I go to bed again. Lying down and sleeping just isn't an idea I ever have, even if I'm tired or sick. On the rare occasion that I fall asleep during a movie or something, I am messed up for the rest of the night--can't go to sleep at night or can't stay asleep....

However, many moms stress how important it is to nap when your baby naps, etc. I guess I am wondering, were you used to napping, or getting a ton of sleep pre-baby? Or were you just so tired that you were able to nap, though you never used to? (I hear it's tiring?!!?!)
