Ours broke pretty early on and we did get it replaced but only used it while outside on the deck in the summer.

Never with LO1. Her crib was in our bedroom until we moved at 14 months. We lived in a townhome and I could hear her from downstairs.

Lo2 is here and I've debated back and forth several times before finally buying one. It's been very convenient bc we live in a bigger house and well, there's a loud big sister to the mix. Although he's in our bedroom temporarily, when he moves into his nursery, it's also the farthest from our bedroom.

We have one but didn't need it. Our house is small and we can easily hear the kids. We only use it when we are outside while they are napping or in the evening during the summer.

I tried using it when she was really little, but found I didn't need it for conventional uses.
We lived in an apartment building, so I used it to bring with me when I put her in the playpen walked down the hall to the laundry room.
And I use it summer nights so I can go out in the backyard with my husband and our firepit and hear her if she wakes up.

I only use one at night. I am a very heavy sleeper and would not hear her without it. But I don't use one for naps or in the evening when I have put her to bed but I am still awake.

We have a video one but I rarely use it now at 11 months. I basically only use it first thing in the morning if I hear her stir. "Is she really awake or just moving around". Earlier on i used it more at night to peek if she was sleep crying or angry/hungry crying. The monitor runs only on our phones and tablets.
I also set my phone on the terrace with the app running audio only if I'm working in the yard
Our apartment is compact. If she's awake I hear her and she only sleeps in her crib.
We have an audio one that we only use for travel when we stay in larger places.

We don't. DD's room is across the hall from ours. The only time I wished I had a video monitor was during sleep training. We have an audio only monitor and use it if we go outside during naps.

We never used it much - Maybe a few months after she went into her own room, but could do without. We only use it now at nap time to make sure she doesn't climb out when she isn't going down easily. I do like being able to tell her to get down when she throws a leg over!

We didn't/don't for babies. DS is 9 months and his is still in the box. I use my 3 yo's daily. I like to know if she stayed in bed and when she actually fell asleep for her nap so I can guess what time she will wake up. It lives on the charger in the kitchen.

We use an audio one at night, but probably won't for too much longer. We keep our bedroom heater and the baby's room heater on at night, but don't want to heat the whole house, so we keep the doors closed. If the doors were open, I wouldn't feel the need for the monitor.

We don't. We didn't need one in our one bedroom apartment, and our two bedroom isn't much bigger. My guess is that we might get one when she gets a big-girl bed. But for now, we don't miss it!

My current nanny family (and all my former ones) do not use them. Most of my babysitting families do not use them either but a few do. Most of the time I just forget to even look at them. One family has cameras set up through their small one story house. It weird a me out esp since the mom stays at home and they almost never have a babysitter. My nanny kid and I were doing a play date there once and the two kids (4 and 5) were playing in kid's bedroom where all the toys were. The mom and I were in the kitchen (around the corner from bedroom) and she had to check the vid to check on them? Seriously? We could hear them playing and all she had to was walk around the corner to see them. Weird! I won't use them with my kids but I might make an exception if I have a child has major health issues. The video cameras really creep me out and I just don't see a need.

We don't because we cosleep, but my dad and stepmom never did with my siblings (and they did NOT cosleep; they were very adamant about CIO). They never had any issues, but it was a small house. The kids were older when they moved to a bigger one (brother was maybe 1-2?), and it was still fine for them.

Nope. With LO1, she was in our room until 18 months, and even after she was in her room, our house is such that we can hear everything. LO2's room is a little further away but he will be in with us the first few weeks/months and then should be fine. We may revisit the idea if needed, but currently don't plan on getting a monitor.

We only used one for a few months when we put our son in his own room at around 4 months. But we stopped because his room is so close that I could hear him without it & it was disrupting my sleep. We did use it occasionally, like if he was napping and we were out in the yard, or when visiting my parents who have a bigger house.

We don't. Our place is all on one level and about 1500sqf, but a square shape so the bedrooms are all pretty close. I hear EVERYTHING since I'm such a light sleeper. I'm not worried about something happening since I know I'll hear it.

Someone in my parenting group is a medical doctor and they don't use a baby monitor at all. Though, I don't know how big their house is. Maybe it's a small house or maybe they are co-bedding.

I always thought the use of some type of monitor was more common.
