We had two rooms to choose from and they were both equal distance from our master. But one is close to the laundry room so we ruled that one out because we planned on doing laundry round the clock (which is what ended up happening!). The room we ended up choosing had more sunlight than the other room so we installed blackout curtains (highly recommended). I think for us, noise control was definitely the biggest consideration.</p> <p>2. We don't have a ceiling fan and don't plan on installing one either. We used a humidifier a lot in the beginning (he had reflux) and that helped a lot so a ceiling fan would've been useless for us.</p> <p>3. I'm still shopping for a glider. We have two spare rooms, an office and a guest room. The office is across from our bedroom, but it would be too much work to move all of our computer stuff into the other room. We're going to move the queen bed from the guest room into the office. Also, our neighbor smokes outside and you can smell the smoke from the office occasionally, so we chose the guest room for that reason, too.</p> <p>2. We didn't have a ceiling fan in either room, but after reading up on SIDS, we decided we would install one. Hubs and his dad just put it in 2 weeks ago (in the guest room).</p> <p>3. I registered for a glider and hope to get one for my birthday from the ILs! The other room is down the hall, facing the street, and has two windows. </p> <p>And trust me, you want a glider!!! When baby is 20 lbs it's difficult and tiring to rock them yourself. Just don't get one that's TOO comfortable because you will fall asleep in it! Her bedroom doesn’t have a ceiling fan, and we don’t plan to put one in unless it becomes necessary. The advantage of that room is there is 1 window that already has light-block curtains installed (and a skylight), so if she needs a darker room, that will be easy to provide. It also has a door, whereas most of the rest of our home is open concept with tons of windows which probably isn’t so baby-friendly. That room happens to have a walk-in closet (its our current bedroom, actually) but we’ll retain the closet. The first is smaller, but is toward the back of the house and has a higher window.<br /> The second is quite a bit larger, at the front of the house, and has a window to the floor. </p> <p>We chose the smaller one for safety concerns, and because the other room needs to be a guest room + an office. Ours broke (going to get a new one today) and getting on and off the couch or bed that are in her nursery is a huge PITA. Anyways</p> <p>1. We only have pme s[are bedroom, but both of our rooms in our house could be considered "master" beds. One thing to think about with all the windows and natural light - at some point, you might need blackout curtains .Liv slept through light, dark, whateverm until about a month ago (at 6 months old.) now, any light AT ALL in her room wakes her up. You want a quiet room for sure, but that wasnt high on my priority list. They have to get used to some noise at some point, plus there is always a white noise machine. Temperature control is very important. Closet space - its a plus, but honestly, not a deal maker or breaker. Youll find a system for organizing the clothes regardless of closet size (Liv has a TON of clothes and we took the room with the walk-in closet. Hers is smaller, but we have that and her dresser, which we use more than the closet.)</p> <p>2. Yes, it has a ceiling fan.,Our pedi recommended that if we can install one or already have one - do it or use it on low/mediium. I suppose a floor fan or something would work as well.</p> <p>3. I didnt want a glider at first bc I thought it was unnecessary. Then when I used the one in our hospital room for the 4 days I was there (c-sec) I realized that the large chair and bed in there wouldnt cut it. You spend a lot of time in there, gliding in the glider is very soothing, and now its a vital part of our bedtime routine. We went the cheap route and ordered one just to be sure. We chose the room with the fewest windows (keeps it cooler in our hot summers) and the room that did not have a roof under the windows. We'll keep this room as the child's room s she gets older and I do not want her even considering sneaking out and using the roof as access!</p> <p>2. The room does have a ceiling fan but I'm not sure that we'll use it. It will probably get use later in her life, though.</p> <p>3. Sofa, chair, la-z-boy, whatever. I think it's important that you have somewhere comfortable to sit. A friend of mine has an oversized chair in her nursery and loves it for nursing. They have a la-z-boy downstairs that they use for rocking, if necessary. We chose the closest room to us. Our second option is right next door to the first, but we both agreed that at 4 in the morning it was nice to have the room even a few steps closer to us. Natural light might not be so good for a baby during nap time- we have black out blinds on our windows to keep the light away.</p> <p>2. Her room does have a ceiling fan but we don't use it. We have an insulating fan that we use at night- it circulates the air without the cold air getting on her and it is good for white noise.</p> <p>3. I think a sofa is an awesome idea! LO's room is small so the glider works for us, but on vacation we usually just use any chair or couch when giving her the bedtime bottle and they all work fine. I was just curious about a few things:</p> <p>1. How'd you decide which room to use as your nursery? We have three spare bedrooms to choose from. My husband wants the most interior room because he thinks it is the quietest and has the most stable temperatures - warmest in the winter and coolest in the summer. Also, it already has a ceiling fan in it and vaulted ceilings. I want the room that's over our garage because it's a much larger room, it has more windows/natural light, it's slightly closer to our room and it has a huge walk-in closet. There are pros &amp; cons to both - what were your highest priorities in choosing the room for the nursery - size? proximity to you? noise control?</p> <p>2. Does your nursery have a ceiling fan? The room over the garage has a lower, peaked ceiling so a ceiling fan won't really work in there. I'm just wondering if that was something you thought necessary?</p> <p>3. I know gliders seem to be the preferred seating in a nursery, but we were thinking we'd like to have a sofa in there instead. Is that crazy? Is there something magical about a glider (esp. in relation to breastfeeding) that I don't understand? We'd like to get a sofa so all three of us (me, dh and baby) could sit/cuddle together. Also, we thought a pull-out sofa might be ideal to provide more sleeping locations (we regularly have an additional 4-6 people in the house when my family comes to visit because they lives far away so the more beds the better).</p> <p>Ooops, this is like a novel.
