Yes! It's like a stay awake drug for DD. I gave it due to a bad reaction to bug bites and she goes crazy. I knew it could happen because my sister always has the same reaction

Usually Benadryl makes my kids drowsy. I give it to them before bed when their eczema is bothering them more than usual, and they usually fall asleep right away. Only on a few occasions have they caught a second wind while taking Benadryl.

It makes DS1 crazy hyper. He'll get drowsy first- for about 2 hours and then he'll be a total wild man for the next 22. (He was attached by fire ants when he was 18 months- the pedi recommended it.) Now they say we can give zyrtec in the same way. DS2 has never had Benadryl because I refuse to try it and don't keep it in the house.

That's crazy/weird!! Benadryl makes DS drowsy, but it doesn't help him sleep longer. If anything, he wakes up a couple hours later startled/confused/upset. So we quit giving it to him unless it's the last resort.

We were in the ER because DD's eyes swelled shut due to a bug bite, and the doctor's there cautioned against benedryl for that reason! They recommended aerius, which we used and had no problems.

I had no idea this was a thing until I googled it, and b/c it happened to DD!

She developed this crazy rash that dr said could just be a virus working through, and suggested Benadryl to make her feel more comfortable.

Her dose during the day didn't tell us much; she didn't nap well but we would never think it was that!

Of course, I decided to give it to her right before bed thinking it'd help her sleep, but instead she was up going crazy for 2 hrs straight!
