I give it to them before bed when their eczema is bothering them more than usual, and they usually fall asleep right away. He'll get drowsy first- for about 2 hours and then he'll be a total wild man for the next 22. (He was attached by fire ants when he was 18 months- the pedi recommended it.) Now they say we can give zyrtec in the same way. Benadryl makes DS drowsy, but it doesn't help him sleep longer. If anything, he wakes up a couple hours later startled/confused/upset.
