For messy meals, yes. Not if it's something simple like bagels with cream cheese or quesadillas. DD has REFUSED to wear a bib at home since about 9 months but wears one at school without a peep.

I'm pretty sure they don't, even though they have some there and I have brought some in, and asked them to put them on him. I don't care so much about his clothes, I send him in clothes I don't mind getting dirty, but I don't love when he is covered in crusty food which then gets on my clothes when I pick him up...

Yes. They have lots and lots of bibs and change them throughout the day. They use the big old shirt looking bibs for messy meals and just regular bibs for drooling. There is a washer and dryer on site for the infant classes. But, he still comes home messy most days from other things.. paint, playing outside, etc. haha.

I'm guessing my daycare does not because I packed one when he first started solids and it was never used... and now he comes home coated in whatever he's been eating all day. Ugh. So annoying... its probably a state law though, they are super strict in MA.

If it's a really messy meal they will, otherwise nope. We had to ditch bibs a Loooong time ago any way because L just refused to wear them and would tear them off. I just expect him to come home dirty and I don't send him to daycare in stuff that I don't want to get dirty.

they put bibs on my 15 month old when she's eating anything messy, like yogurt. her classroom, which is mixed age up to 3 years, has bibs for all the kids (it's on our list of things to bring in), so I assume the older kids get bibs too sometimes! that said, lo comes home covered in paint or whatever they had out that day so I just don't send her in with her nicest clothes!

@lamariniere: my 2.5 year old (and the other kids in the class) get bibs for certain foods - like yogurt in cups! They provide them.

@ktdid23: I'm in Austria, so things are a little different here, but that could be one explanation. That said, I brought in one of those soft plastic bibs, so no chance she would fall asleep with it on!

@mediagirl: What if you just pack a bib in your child's lunchbox? State laws usually say that your just can't let a child fall asleep (for nap) with a bib on. Otherwise, there's really no laws that would prohibit your child from wearing a bib, so I would ask for a real reason as to why no buns are allowed.

Or, when you get to daycare, pull out a bib and place it near the fridge or where you put her bottles. Make sure it's clearly labeled. There should be no issue for the teacher to pop it on her before meals.

Bump!

My DD is 19 months and comes home in different clothes every single day because she spills her lunch all over herself. She has also stained/ruined a number of outfits. Yesterday I finally asked if they could put a bib on her, and even brought in one from home, and the teacher said the school director does not allow them. What? She couldn't tell me the reason why. Has anyone else had this experience or understand why no bibs are allowed? For info, every day they have soup, then a main course, then dessert. She ALWAYS spills soup all over herself.

@MamaMoose: you sound like me right now. I can't wait till she gets out of this room... I don't understand why teachers would think it's okay for kids to walk around a mess after lunch. Would they want to walk around with a stained shirt on all afternoon?

No and it makes me INSANE. When I pick her up and she's a mess I always say things like "Wow M, you are sooo messy. You need to wear your bibs when you eat". We've got some issues with the teachers in her current room though and honestly I have to pick my battles... so I don't push too hard on the bibs.

Would they if you asked them to?

Today they are having pasta and I really don't want my 18 month old coming home with her new shirt stained so, I asked that they put a bib on her. It's the first time I've asked them to do that....they don't normally. Does your daycare? Do you ask them to?
