For the scrap you described I wouldn't expect them to say anything.

From what I've observed, we only get reports for things like biting and anything that requires care - ice, bandaid etc. which is fine with me - they spend 2 or 3 hours a day outside on an amazing playground so I assume scrapes and bumps will happen.

We get incident reports if they saw something happen (or if there were tears) with what happened and the treatment, but B often comes home with little scrapes and bruises that didn't get reported. I assume he just didn't make a fuss about it and so it didn't get noticed.

If my daycare had to report every time my kid got bruised, they'd have to report it every single day! Kids this age are accident prone and get bumps and bruises all the time! It's pretty normal.

My daycare will usually report cuts, even if they aren't entirely sure what happened. And they'll report big bumps, like the time my kid collided with another kid and banged heads. But for what you are describing, that wouldn't warrant a report.

We get a report. But, are your los nails long or uneven? Given that it's on his face, could he have scratched his face/eyes while rubbing them? Lo does this sometimes and has at school and we don't get a note for that. Notes are more for falls that she cries about, even if she isn't actually hurt (like last week we got one about a nonexistent scrape on her knee that she cried about for 1 min lol)

I asked something similar too when LO started daycare. Sometimes it's nice to know that daycare notices the out of ordinary even if they don't know the cause.

Unless their is an incident report behind the accident or out of ordinary my daycare does not formally report it. We have to sign incident reports. After bringing up a few times scratches that left a mark for days my daycare teachers brought up new marks they noticed at pick up. I also found any concerns I relayed with one teacher was discussed when the other came in. If the morning teacher doesn't know you asked about the scrapes and bruises with the afternoon teacher definitely bring everyone in the loop.

@MsMini: ours does this too. And I also find it a little over the top.

I will say that there are some times when I pick up DD1 and her regular teacher has gone for the day, so I don't get much if any report from the other teachers (they group together the 3's and 4's after 4pm). But when I see her regular teacher the next morning she will typically give me more details about the previous day. So if you're still concerned and want more information, maybe you could talk to your sons morning teacher at drop off and just let her know you'd like more information about bumps in the future. @macintosh:

Ours reports every. single. thing. that leaves a mark. Even if they didn't see it happen. I honestly find it SO over the top. I am signing at least 1 per day between my 2 kids and it is exhausting.

Unless daycare sees it happen (or hears it), we don't get a report. They have 10 toddlers between two teachers and can't watch all of them every second.

I wouldn't worry. If they didn't see it and it's not a huge mark there's a chance it was a bump that wasn't noticed.

General grazes etc aren't usually written up but they're usually mentioned when we're picking up the kids, anything more serious (or witnessed) gets written up.

Yes we get a written report if they saw what happened but if the LO didn't fuss that much and was outside, I could see it being missed.

Not everything and I would not necessarily expect a report for something like this but it would have been nice of them to at least mention it to you. My dd didn't start school til three though. (Well right before 3.)

I love DS's new daycare, but something small happened today and it's bugging me. It could be that I'm anxious about enrolling him full time next month, or maybe I just don't care for this one teacher.

DS is under 2 but he's had his share of bad scrapes to his face while he was becoming mobile and learning to walk, mostly in my care. When the nanny sees him fall or bump his head she always lets me know, even if there's no mark.

Today at pickup he had a small red mark and scrape right above his nose. It's small and will probably not be noticeable tomorrow, but when I asked the teacher she said she didn't see anything happen. It could be because she only works afternoons. I know they have a lot of kids to keep an eye on and they might not see every incident, but is it weird to expect that someone would have noticed?

Feel free to tell my of my expectation are too high or I'm being ultra-paranoid
