@Maysprout: Mine does the same thing with making a face. When we were out in CA, she was double fisting the fresh strawberries - she couldn't get enough of them. Since it's too cold for strawberries here, I keep trying different brands, different growing areas and every.single.time she just spits out the strawberries and won't eat them! Then she makes a mad face! haha can't wait until strawberries are more in season here and I can stock up!

Strawberries probably cost about the same at either place, but we decided we're only going to buy them in season from a farm, because the taste is totally different. Supermarket strawberries are white and crunchy inside, whereas in season farm strawberries are red throughout and super sweet! There's no comparison.

No it's more expensive to purchase from the farmer's market. We do it on occasion to get really fresh and local ingredients, but it is usually much cheaper to buy from the grocery store. I will admit that where I live is a total agriculture state and we have access to some of the freshest local produce. Sometimes it's worth paying the extra money! It often tastes so much better.

@yoursilverlining: I agree with the grocery store strawberries tasting off this year. I kept trying them once in awhile bc my daughter loved them last summer and she takes one bite and makes a face with the grocery store ones.

Usually the farmer's market is more expensive, but it's also higher quality than what I find in the grocery store. I will splurge on $4 strawberries because they taste so much better. Sometimes you can find bargains like $1 for a huge head of cabbage or $2 for any size butternut squash.

I find that squash/zucchini/tomatoes are cheaper at the farmer's market, but everything else is cheaper at the grocery store :/

I signed up for a CSA through work though, so I'm hoping I get a lot of good stuff in my weekly bags! Hoping to cut out my weekly trip to the store!

For in season veggies, the farmers market is generally cheaper,
or on oar with grocery prices. It's generally cheaper than whole foods for everything. Meat is more expensive bit that makes sense since it's small local organiz farms vs. Huge factory farms.

The strawberries were about double grocery store strawberry prices, but the imported strawberries have all tasted "off" this season; even the ones from CA which are usually good. And the local ones taste sooooo sweet and good so i don't mind paying more for a few weeks until it's strawberry season here.

Jams, cheese and eggs at our farmers market are on par with the higher end or " speciality" foods at the grocery store.

It depends on which farmers market you go to in our area. One is pretty high, and the others are comparable to the supermarket or lower, depending on what items you're buying. I will pay a little extra to keep my money local and know that the items I'm buying have been grown mindfully and responsibly.

It depends on what food it is. For fresh fruits and veggies that are in season, yes they are cheaper at the farmers market but somethings are more expensive

Depends on which supermarket. But generally the price is comparable. If the farmer's market is a little more we generally would still buy it to support local farmers, know where our food is coming from and not say, Mexico, and know that it's CNG. 85% of our local farmers practice CNG standards and/or are certified naturally grown.

We have one farmers market where my husband works and the prices are crazy. There's another farmers market a town over though that's always less than the supermarket.
We've still got a couple weeks for strawberries here, but I can't wait. Last year we went to pick your own, and my daughters eyes bugged out when she saw a whole field of her favorite food.

It depends on the item/time of year for me. I can get veggies at a reasonable price but, it's strawberry season and I just can't buy my strawberries from the Farmer's Market. I would love to support our local farmers but it's really difficult to do so when 1lb of strawberries are $4-$5 at the Farmer's Market and $2 at my local grocery store.
