@Anagram: Three days to see a difference sounds helpful, I know logically that it might be longer but if I can see some results that fast it might be easier to stick with it...

I am so overwhelmed, I am pretty sure at this point this is actually mspi. I don't eat much soy so that isn't hard at all but the dairy... I feel like everything I eat has milk in it! I just read Mrs. Dear's post and she mentioned that her baby would get a rash wherever poop touched his skin and that's her exactly. Plus she keeps stirring in her sleep from gas.

Silver lining is losing baby weight, right? :bummed: :bummed:

@Cole: I "cut down" on dairy (like switched from regular milk to almond milk) and saw no difference. But then I eliminated dairy and soy 100% and saw a difference within 3 days. I tried adding soy back in about a month later, but LO didn't take to it.

And then my Ped still wasn't convinced so a few weeks later, she asked me to do an Alimentum "trial" for 3 days. I gave LO Alimentum for only 1.5 days and her next diaper was full on bloody. Not streaks of blood, gobs and gobs of it. I felt so, so guilty (because Alimentum still has some milk proteins, they are just broken down).

Anyway, after that I just kept EPing on the MSPI diet till LO was 13 months with no major issues. At 12 months, we switched her to hemp milk and she was fine with that.

DD was having green poop sometimes and it turned out to be a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance.

Unfortunately, this sounds like a dairy allergy/intolerance to me. I unintentionally found out that LO#1 was allergic to dairy and soy by trying to supplement with formula. He was already super colicky while EBF, but he gained weight like a champ and never had visible blood in his stool so my pedi did not suspect MSPI or allergies. But LO projectile-vomited when I tried regular formula, sensitive formula, and soy formula. When I tried Alimentum (hypoallergenic formula) he was like a new baby! We'd been through a lot over the first 5 months so I threw in the towel on BF rather than trying an elimination diet because I was just so relieved that he seemed comfortable and happy, but I'm going to try eliminating with LO#2 if we run into something similar. Good luck!

It could be foremilk imbalance but considering the other symptoms you mentioned it does sound more like an intolerance/allergy. My approach was to eliminate one thing at a time for a week which seemed easier than an elimination diet and then adding things back in but it did take some trial and error. I would probably start with eliminating dairy and go from there.

@Anagram: I am kind of afraid of that! Could you tell a difference day to day before eliminating foods if you ate a lot of something? How long did it take to see improvement?

I spent the weekend trying to make sure she got lots of the hindmilk, block feeding and making sure things felt empty and it didn't change things so I don't think it's an imbalance there  .

@Cole: My answer isn't a good one. =) My LO had about 90% green poops (bright green, like...ground green beans, or ground peas) her whole life but my pediatrician kept assuring me that it wasn't an intolerance. We had a host of other eating issues (LO seemed generally uncomfortable, she didn't want to breast feed, then when I switched to EPing, she started refusing the bottle) but even then the pediatrician didn't suggest trying to eliminate foods from my diet until LO started having blood in her stools after 3 months. It was teensy, tiny streaks of blood--sometimes not even visible to the eye.

But when I cut dairy and soy, her poops went to yellow (brown after starting solids). Even after she turned 1, if she accidentally ate dairy or soy, she would have streaks of blood and green poos.

On the other hand, they say some babies just have moer greenish poos, and sometimes it can be a hind/foremilk imbalance.

I can't decide if I am being a bit of a hypochondriac on behalf of my baby in regards to allergies or not. She is 11 weeks old, ebf, and has been having green poop about 1/3-1/2 the time. She has a couple of small, not terribly inflamed eczema patches on her legs. She tends to be on the gassy side and some days seems pretty upset by it but it's not even everyday let alone every feeding. We have been battling a diaper rash that comes and goes.

I think I am overly worried about allergies because my husband has a ton (including soy) and I want to make sure we are on top of keeping her safe but I also don't really want to do an mspi diet "just in case." How do you decide these things?
