I have to have a snack before bed that is 1 serving of carb, 1 of protien. I love crackers with cheese and salami, cheese and egg, crackers and pb. Stuff like that. A lot of people forget that cheese counts as a protien.

Are you taking your prenatal vitamins? I'm just throwing this curve ball out there, but I had a similar feeling my second pregnancy where I was sure I must have GD because I would get weak dizzy and shake but I took the GD test and passed! But I hadn't been very good in Taking my prenatal vitamins. So I started taking them more consistently again (I know, I know, I'm so so bad) and all that greatly improved. Wonder if it could also be some nutritional deficiency?

My midwife thinks hypoglycemia can be an indicator of insulin resistance, which is "pre diabetes", but not that it's an indicator of GD.

@mrsrain: Not sure, but I found that just aiming for protein at night helped keep me from dipping too low and having simple carbs before getting out of bed corrected the balance. Then I'd have a protein heavy breakfast to avoid another low later. I did a lot of cottage cheese or full fat Greek yogurt as bedtime snacks. Other easy nut free favorites: cold leftover chicken dipped in bbq sauce, cold leftover sliced steak, cheese sticks, smoothie with protein powder, milk with protein powder, protein bar. But truly what helped the most was keeping crackers, etc and juice boxes next to the bed and having one before I even sat up all the way. I also often had a granola bar in the middle of the night if I woke up to go to the bathroom.

I appreciate the suggestions! So many of the high protein snacks I find have nuts in them, which are not an option for me. Tonight I am having two cups of whole milk, because it's easy. I think tomorrow I'm going to hardboil eggs so I can grab one before bed. Any ideas of how many grams protein I should be aiming for?

I kept a box of granola bars, one of dry cereal, and one of crackers in my night stand and ate something before getting up. No GD!

Full fat ice cream can be a great pre-bed snack, it's often suggested for women with GD.

As I entered my second trimester I began to experience dizziness in the mornings. When I spoke to my midwife about it she said it sounds like low blood sugar. She told me to eat a high protein snack at night and have a glass of juice before getting up in the morning. I've been trying, but not doing great with the high-protein snack at night, and I'm still struggling with feeling faint/shaky/sweaty in the mornings. I'm 20 weeks now and I started wondering... Does this struggle with hypoglycemia indicate that I may have GD? I did not deal with either condition in my first pregnancy.
