Wow, I totally don't think of it that way at all. The way we parent now is so huge. Everything matters, from the way we treat them and take care of them, to the food we feed them, to the exercise and adventures they get. I guess it is a little sad that they won't remember all the crazy stuff we do, but good parenting now pays off so well later.

I agree that you are building the foundation for the rest of their life! I work in early childhood mental health and the experiences and relationships that kids have in their very early years have significant impacts down the road. So even if Charlie doesn't remember the details of the cool things you have done, he will know that he has adults in his life who value him and make time for him and that he can rely on, and that shapes how he interacts with the rest of the world as he grows!

It actually doesn't depress me at all, because everything we do now is so important. Its kind of amazing that our LO's won't remember these years, but if we are not good parents; they will be...well, sort of messed up for life. Since they won't remember anything, but our actions now will have such a profound impact on their lives; it seems a little bit amazing really.

It is kind of depressing but I try to think of it as building a foundation.. Building healthy, loving, and trusting relationship as a family... If they at least remember that they had a great childhood, I will completely satisfied, whether or not they remember what we did exactly...

My baby isn't here yet but my 19-month-old niece is visiting on holiday from England and she's having such a good time, it's so sad she'll never remember her trip to Toronto! Sometimes I love that my little nieces and nephews won't remember stuff though because to them their aunty has always lived overseas whereas my eight-year-old niece remembers all the time I used to spend with her before I moved and it makes her sad. I hate that!

If you keep good scrapbooks that they like to look at, they don't forget everything. Our 5 yr old loves to look at pics and so he'll look through them and he can recall stuff from those days. It's like constant reminders.

It totally bums me out. We have so many special memories together, and he is always talking about them. How could he ever forget all the fun we've had together??

I know it's just how the human body works, but I will take it a little personally when he forgets our first four years together.

Does it ever depress you that your LO will forget everything that happened before they're a certain age?
