I've got a gender-neutral name, and nobody ever teased me for it. I do sometimes get Mr. Evans, especially on cold call emails or from elderly gentleman, but not often enough to really bother me. I love Elliott for a girl!

I love Elliot for a girl. And if she is called Elliot, great, if she decides she wants to be Elle or Ellie, great. The other thing I love about unisex names is that she will not be discriminated against when applying to jobs for being a woman. If you love it, that is all that matters.

I love that name for a girl!

I think for some people names just have to grow on you. I have friends that have kids who's names I didn't love at first, but once you meet and get to know the baby it starts making sense for them. And once you start loving the baby you start loving the name too, because you associate it with good things.

Two things:

1-this is exactly why we kept names to ourselves! everyone has an opinion, and frankly, my opinion and my DH's opinion was all that mattered to me!
2-there is a little girl who goes to swimming lessons right after my older daughter, and her name is elliott! and it is so sweet, and so is she! they call her ella for short :)

I think it's kind of cute and love the nickname Ellie. But if you asked which gender or gender neutral is it, I would've gone with boy, as I think it's more common. As long as you're ok with it occasionally being assumed she's a boy, then go for it.

But if I was a kid, I wouldn't want people to automatically assume I was a boy - which they most often will.

I LOVE IT. And I'm generally one who is not a fan of unisex names at all. I think you should go for it!

Our family was not a fan of our top 2 names, but once we found out its a girl and firmly chose our name, they grew to love it. As long as you and DH love the name, that's really all that matters, and it will set the tone for reactions from those close to you.

I actualy love it as a girls name and think you could use Ellie as a nickname if you wanted/needed something more girly sounding, but Elliot is beautiful!

My friend recently had a baby and they kept all potential names between themselves for this very reason. Her husband was afraid that people's reactions would shape their name choices and they had a hard time naming their first child. If you love the name and both agree on it I would try to just ignore them and keep them to yourselves for the time being.

When the baby is here, it will just fit her and everyone will accept it. My daughter is Harper James and both of our families thought it was WAY too masculine and now that she's here, they love it and when people ask her name and I tell them, everyone is nuts about it! I think when the baby is here and is all cute and cuddly, people are a lot more accepting than when they dont have a real person to associate it with.

And if anyone doesnt like it, they can suck it, lol

i think its really cute, actually. i definitely would picture a boy first, if i just heard the name, but i think gender neutral names are becoming more and more popular and it won't turn heads as much as perhaps in the past. probably within her own school friends there will be others with 'unsual' names, too!

all that said, i think you should go with it, but still brace for people's possibly negative reactions and try your best not to be bothered by it, as it probably will come up from time to time! :)

This is exactly why we will tell NO ONE our baby name selections until the baby is born and named! Some rude people will still give their opinions, but at least then there can't be any waffling on our part. ;)

Boy names for girls is not my preference overall, but I think your choice is perfectly lovely and reasonable, and not "weird" at all. At the end of the day, its your child and you get to name them. The opinion of others really shouldn't matter!

I love it and think it would be totally fine in the US, but maybe because it's rare in the UK people would have a hard time accepting it? I can tell you I heard worse when I was teaching in London, so I say if you like it, go with it!
